Michael A. Ruddy Construction of the Gage Park High School was begun on De- cember 28, l927 when the Board of Education purchased proper- ty known as Swing's Farm, which is now our school cam- pus. The building project was abandoned for lack ot funds until 1938 when the work was resumed. Although this school was planned originally as a girls' technical school to be known as the Verdi School, it was renamed Gage Park High School, a co-educational school. At last the great efforts of civic- minded individuals and groups were rewarded in the opening of the Gage Park High School, a modern two million dollar structure. Its dedication took place on October 26, 1939, with DEDICATION GAGE PARK HIGH SCHOOL Iames F. Kovarik A Mrs. Iohn K. Beers Robert W. Schulze . Ierry Pech the welcoming address deliv- ered by Mr. William Abrams, principal, who invited the audi- ence to inspect the building. Other addresses were made by such distinguished personages as Dr. William H. Johnson, su- perintendent of schools, and Mr. James B. McCahey, president of the Board of Education. This formal ceremony was attended by representatives of many clubs and civic bodies, such as Gage Park Citizens' Improve- ment Club, Gage Park Parent- Teacher Association, Gage Park Women's Club, and the South- west Civic Federation. Thus be- gan the story oi the Gage Park High School whose history is in the making. Q: 1-
