li'OlQliWORD .s Icarus launched himself on a new adventure, flying, so we, the first graduates of Gage Park High School, are now launching ourselves on a new and important ad- venture, the ICARIAN. When Icarus took up the experiment of flying, little did. he realize that it would result in huge airliners soaring smoothly through the sky. So we, the graduates of the Class of l94l and the citizens of tomorrow, endeavor to rise to new heights of success, and achievement in whatever undertakings we may choose.

His experience as principal of Wendell Phillips High School has qualified him for this responsible position. Because of his intelligence, per- severance, foresight, and courage, Gage Park has successfully Weathered its first, its hardest years. We are proud of our pilot to Whom We gratefully dedicate our first Icarian. As seniors for two yearsjyou now enjoy the distinction of being members of the first graduating class of Gage Park High School. During the brief period of the school's existence you- and the school have grown and de veloped simultaneously. - . The benefits which youhave received from your attendance at this school and the formation of the school's character are reciprocal: individually you have developed your personality While you assisted in molding the character of the school. lt is our hope that the training you received, the associations you made, and the events which occurred during your two years at Gage Park will be the instrumentalities for the devel- opment of those traits essential to a happy and useful life.
