CAROLYN F. DUBOSE 1944-1986 We, GCA Student Body, would like to dedicate our 1986-1987 yearbook to the DuBose family in memory of Mrs. Carolyn DuBose IF MY LIPS COULD SPEAK AFTER DEATH, THEY WOULD SAY . . . JESUS SAVES' ' A SELF DESCRIPTION THE FLOWERS BOW TO HER GRACE, FOR THEY KNOW OF HER GREAT LOVE FOR ALL. THE BIRDS SING SWEETLY AS SHE PASSES BY. FOR THEY KNOW SHE CARES FOR THEM ALL. THE SUN SHINES BRIGHTLY FOR IT KNOWS OF HER NEED FOR ITS WARMTH. HER MEMORIES ARE FOR OTHERS FOR THEY HAVE FIRST PLACE IN HER HEART. SHE SMILES AT THE WORLD, AND THE WORLD SMILES BACK AT HER. FOR THE PEACE IN HER HEART WAS CREATED BY THE MASTER OF ALL GOOD THINGS. HER NEEDS ARE MET WHEN SHE BRINGS JOY TO OTHER'S LIVES. FOR TRULY IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE. MY FIRST 21 YEARS WITH THE SAVIOR THE SECOND SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER, I CELEBRATED 21 YEARS WITH THE SAVIOR THERE HAVE BEEN MANY BLESSINGS AND JOYS, EVEN THROUGH THE TEARS MY GREATEST JOY IS KNOWING THAT HIS PRESENCE GOES BEFORE ME ALWAYS. EVEN WHEN I AM AT MY WORST. HE IS ALWAYS BY MY SIDE. NOT ONCE HAS HE FORSAKEN ME OR LEFT ME. HE IS THERE ALL THE TIME. HE COULD HAVE CHOSEN ANYONE. THE WORLD IS SO FULL OF PEOPLE WITH SO MUCH MORE TO OFFER HIM BUT ON THAT SATURDAY NIGHT 21 YEARS AGO, HE PICKED ME AS I LOOK BACK OVER THE PAST 21 YEARS. IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT ALL. 3 OF Executive Office Mr. Johnny K. Darsey Business Manager Mrs. Brenda B. Darsey Office Manager Dr. Larry A. DuBose Education Committee Chairman Mr. Terrell H. The tears that were shed revealed the love for each other that has grown through the years. As some of the Seniors sang or gave their last words or even presented a skit, we all reflected on times past. We all share the memories that will always be with not only the Seniors, but our memories that were shared with the entire school. The tears that were shared were tears of sorrow and tears of joy but mostly . . . they were tears of remembrance. 19 Senior Candids Arthur, Dawn Barber, Kelly Bryant. It is not only a time to take your sweet- heart out, but it is a time for good food, great entertainment, and en- riching fellowship. r Tfie 1987 Homecoming Gourt Gadsden Christian Academy students will long remember the exciting activities and competitive events that they were privileged to participate in during SPIRIT WEEK '87, February 2-6. The pre- sentation of the 1987 Homecoming Court was the highlight of the evening on February 6 as the spec- tators eagerly anticipated who would be crowned queen. This event took place between the Jr. Varsity and Varsity basketball games with the Carrabelle Panthers at the GCA gym. The announcement that Lisa Pontoriero had been chosen as the 1987 queen brought cheers from the crowd. Lisa was crowned by Rotha Kelly Jollay, our 1986 queen. Athlete's Honored The 1987 Athletic Banquet was one of praise and remem- brance. The coaches noted the praise worthy and the athletes remembered the play by play situations in which the coach- es refered to. As the Senior athletes reflected on these last years in High school sports, they remembered all of the good times and all of there memories. A new memory was made this year as the Banquet was held in our gym for the first time ever. 52 Varsity- Soccer The 1986 Varsity Soccer Team The GCA Soccer team of '86 had a year of disappointment, but despite a 1-9 re- cord the season had a few bright spots. They had an outstanding victory against new rival, Malone after the shootout. They also played state champs, Maclay in a very close game to finish out the year. 54 SOCCER SCHEDULE DATE OPPONENT PLACE Sept. 16 Maclay Away 19 Malone Away 23 Maclay JV Away 26 MALONE HOME 30 MACLAY JV HOME Oct. 9 MACLAY JV HOME 10 Malone Away 14 Maclay JV Away 17 MACLAY HOME ALL GAMES BEGIN AT 4 P.M. Mrs. Popped, our first grade teacher, was the direc- tor for this year. Mrs. Mason and Susan Brockman helped out by accompanying the chorus. The chorus performed four times this school year. They were the Christmas program, the first parent teacher meeting, elementary chapel, and the patriot- ic program. 91 Fund-Raising This year the school had a couple of fund-raising projects. Mrs. Beverly Merritt helped a great deal in the office of raising funds. Also, Mrs. Ulrich helped in the office with the Campaign of Excellence. The coaches met, new goals were purchased, and many parents helped with serving concessions early on Saturday mornings. % Knickft: C. Stewart, M. Scott, S. Kelly, J. Young, G. Merritt, C. Kyle, T. Miller Track and Field Fa Track and Field day was held on May 1. The contestants consisted of students from grades 3 thru 6. They were involved in many different activities in which some were awarded ribbons for their achievements. Track and Field day was organized by Miss C. Kirkland and Mr. D. Shearon. Mrs. April Ulrich is our school librarian. She has done a wonderful job put- ting together and arrang- ing our library to make it nice for our students. Our students now have easy ac- cess to many sources and reference books in order to write their papers. Mrs. Mason does the filing and reads enjoyable stories to the elementary classes. She also helps the students choose reading books that will give them something to read during their leisure time. 98 Chapel at GCA is the highlight of the week. We've had many different speakers and singing groups come to minister to us. One speaker that sticks out in a lot of our minds is Mr. Dan May. He came and set a lot of us on fire for the Lord. Then, he came back a second time and brought a group of teenagers on their way to a retreat. They sang and some even gave their testimony. A singing group that we remember well is the Carpenter's Tools. 99 u AMBULANCE Elementary Candids 1987 Bus Drivers Mrs. Barbara Arthur Mrs. Glenda Bolton Mrs. Becky Crawford Mrs. Mary Brock, Mrs. B. Lastly, I leave my uncan- ny ability to know everything about everybody to my little sister Angie. Maybe it won't get her into as much trouble as it got me into. I, Cindy Brunson, being of tired mind and overworked body do hereby leave my athletic ability to Tracie Hood, my ability to be on time for homeroom to Robby Wheetley so that Mr. T will never give him another tardy, and my cool temper and fighting ability to the Varsity cheerleaders so that they will be able to protect themselves when they go to Carrabelle. I, Dusty Busby, being of crazed mind and built body, do hereby leave my crazed mind and built body to Keith Dean hoping that he will have better luck with them than I had. I, Alisha Pickett, being of sound mind and small body do hereby leave my car to Trampis, my ability to try to be quiet in class to Keith Dean, and my ability to almost say and do everything before anyone else to Mrs. Bolton. I, Nella Hodges, being of wild mind and neverending ability to party, do leave my ability to have fun and never foul out while playing basketball to Sherri Merritt. I give my Honda Accord to Bill David btrauss. And my driving abilities to Tracie Hood! I would also like to pass my friendliness and happiness down to Mikki Savage and Tracey Crawford, oh! and let's not forget my talent to flirt! Lastly, I'd like for Kelly Barber, Susan Faircloth, Charity Priest, Michelle Youngblood, and Tammy Goodwin to inherit my ability to tell tales in chemistry. I, Scott Haire, being of sound mind and body, do hereby LEAVE!!! I, Chuck Goodwin, being of burnt out mind and over used body, leave my car to Roy Braswell in hopes that he can handle it. And to Brad Touchton, I leave my ability to get on all the girls nerves. I also leave my jokes to Rhett Tiller in hopes that he will make Mrs. Young laugh. I, Beth Edwards, being of fried brain and runty body, do hereby will my ability to only have four classes to Trampis Smith who always trys to get out of his, and my ability to be the shortest person in the class for all our high school years to anyone under five feet tall. To Susan, I leave my spaztic moods and my sense of humor. And to the rest of the student body, I leave my monkey” sounds to echo in the halls forever. I, Rex Shiver, being of sound mind and body leave nothing to the Sophomores! Remember Here comes Toby, excuse me Doc Dubose, he became a psychologist, we all remember how he always had words of wisdom for us all. I heard he gets a lot of advice from Dusty who became a computer scientist. This is unbelievable, here comes Dana, Cliff and David. I heard Jana became a fashion model she is going to talk to Nella about a job. Cliff owns a home out in the country, and spends most of his time hunting fishing. As a matter of fact, he lives out by Tracy I, we have 2 four wheel drives, some quad runners and a bayliner boat, sometimes Cliff comes over for dinner, he never got married, so he spends a lot of time with Tracy I. David is now a corporate lawyer for Wal-marts all over the world. What's that noise, it seems to be getting closer closer . . Oh no! It's Shawn, Rex, and Mike, singing the latest top 40's. I wonder where Keith is . . . Oh, 1 heard that Rex Kelly got married, he owns his own construction company. Shawn plays the keyboard in his own band just got off a world tour. Mike use to be a drummer in Shauns band, recently he asked Vicki to marry him she made him quit playing. Vicki is now a R.N. at TMH. It seems like yesterday that we were graduating here it is time for our 10 year reunion. Nella wasn't going to be able to make it to our reunion, and it just wouldn't be the same without Nella. All our problems were solved when K.T. said she would fly us all to Paris compliments of her own travel agency. It will be neat to hear about everyones life. Here we are at the airport getting ready to leave, it feels like another Sr. trip. Here comes V.F. with her 4 dogs. She is trying to explain to the receptionist that they are all her seeing eye dogs. I don't think she is buying it. What's that awful noise, I've never heard a plane like that, let's go look out the window I should have known, it's Chuck Lisa in their 67 Classics, it looks like their racing down the runway, oh my, I hope they can out run the plane!!! I heard that Chuck owns his own race track he has caused tne_to go out of business. I almost forgot, Lisa finally got married to Geoffry, she held out as long as possible. I hear that her kids are just as spaztic as she was, I also heard that they model hair styles for Cindy. She owns a salon called Spaztic Styles. Cindy owns her business, actually, she owns more than one. She couldn't make up her mind about what she wanted to be! As a matter of fact, Kelly just told me that Cindy filmed a talk show just the other day, get this, the talk show host was our very own Keith Jones, he just started a talk show much to all of our surprise . . after all we didn't even know Keith would talk until our Sr. year. I, Cliff Straughn, do hereby will my fishing abilities to Dale Weeks and my truck to Robby Wheetley in hopes that some day he will have one. I, Kelley Tiller, being of tired mind and short body, leave the Tetta and all of its good times to Kelly Barber and Susan Faircloth, my volleyball ability to Denise Pont., my big mouth on the cheerleading squad to April Davis, and most of all I leave my Senior report card to my brother Rhett so that he will be able to play a full season of basketball and baseball. I, Vicki Tolar, being of stable mind and weary body do hereby leave the cheer Ooga Ooga to the Varsity cheerleaders in hopes that they will get sick of it soon. I leave my seat in Bible for Kelli Jones to prop her feet in. I leave my softball ability to Sherri Merritt who wants it but doesn't need it. I, Becky Walden, being of over-worked body strained mind, leave my driving ability to Trade Hood, leave my ability to have only two classes my senior year to Trampis Smith Keith Dean. And any- thing else to anyone who wants it. I, Shawn Wilson, being of sound mind and body, leave my reputa- tion to anyone who thinks they can handle it! When . . . Amy got married were able to have enough baby boys to create their own baseball team. Here comes Becky, she must have just gotten off work, I see she still has on her uniform, she is the Mgr. of Crouchs Drugs, who's that behind her, its Scott. I heard he owns a chain of grocery stores called Orange Haze”. Oh my goodness, here comes Beth, she is always in a hurry! It still amazes me how she can run right under peoples legs like that. I heard she became an editor of a major magazine. It must have been all of that experience w year- books. Well, we are all here accounted for, it's time to board this lane for PARIS. Who knows, maybe we can all use a little of that rench we learned, maybe not. Oh well, it's off to PARIS. Keep reading the papers watching T.V. I'm sure you will hear more about the Class of '87, we are still making news. Gotto go, I can't wait to see Nella, I heard she is having a party for us. I can hardly wait! Bon Jour . . . Alisha knocked out Chuck Friday Shawn Lisa liked each other and he gave her a Hershey Kiss. Candice kissed Chuck on the cheek everyday The day Dana forgot to wear shoes to scnool Rex hit Alisha in the face on accident Mr. McManus went after Brother DuBose Vicky Farmers make-over in French When Cliff got so fed up with making nachos Rex's expertise at cooking hot dogs in FSU-games Beth sucked chocolate pudding through a straw Mike Mercer pulled Becky's chair out from under her Mr. Corn's first year at GCA and we dissected fetal pigs The boys were busted for moowing at Joanne McPhearson The seniors learned the handbook so well, they could almost quote it word for word Burr stuttered on a poem test — ”mo-mo-mo-mold me Beth and Lisa had tneir habits of writing on choc-o-mints Shawn let a snake loose in the lunchroom Nella and Amy almost fought in the Pizza Hut parking lot Mrs. Young scared her 10th grade history class So bad by informing us of her notebook check-up Beth fell in front of the capitol Nella said she's never come to this school Rex kept his pencil for two days in a row Lisa gained 10 pounds Dusty and Dane didn't fight Mrs. Young told Burr not to let Burr's date wear his jacket. These past twelve years have been full of memories, one's that we'll treasure forever; especially this last year. To Mrs. Young and to the seniors — I will, always remember and love you all! I can't believe it, it's Mike Meer Bun” to all of us. I heard that he Compliments Of JAMES A. STEPHENS, O.D., P.A. Quincy, FL Congratulations!
