Whether it be in the classroom listening to the teacher, on the athletic field playing ball, living through the hurricane and having no water or elec- tricity for a week or two, or making new friends and strengthening old, humility is a necessary prerequisite if we are to be strong. 4 — Introduction Troy Lee Arthur TA Allison Renee Beach Allie 1986 Graduating Stacy Carol Beane Stace Seniors Class Officers Lori Wagoner, Vice President; Angie Jensen, Historian; Kelly Jollay, Secretary-Treasurer; Jo Ann Young, President William Stacy Blackburn Stacy Carole Elizabeth Brock Lizzie Gregory Paul Emery Greg 6 David Earl Fason Buddy Angela Dawn Jensen Ang Rotha Kelly Jollay Bollay Iva Michelle Lewis Chelle Chattahoochee, Florida Gordan Henry Walsh Michelle Suzanne Wells Jo Ann Young Crandall Mitch Jo Ann Benjamen Wesley Smith Ben Tamara Lynn Till Lorena Carol Wagoner Lori “Let the world know you as you are, not as they think you should be! But these two events could never have been pulled off without the patience and diligence of Mrs. Young, the Senior sponsor, and, of course, the Senior parents. 1 am sure they will be just as glad when it is all over. 1. They are faced at least three to four times a year. Most of the time they are dreaded because there is always some kind of hold up. The students this year learned that being on the staff is not all fun and games. Alot of hard work goes into putting a book together, putting names with faces, and picking up some copy to go along with the section. We work hard so that you can be proud to share this book with your friends, relatives, and community. Ten years from now, you can still be reminded of the good times 1985-86 has produced. This year the members took a trip to the Lighthouse Children's Home during Christmas. Gifts of food and clothing were taken, as well as a special gift for each child at the home. It was a joyous time for all of us just knowing that we would share our love and ourselves to those who need it most. LEFT: President, JoAnn Young ABOVE: Advisor, Mr. T. The Officers took a trip to Chattanooga and Dayton, Tennessee for a leadership conference in the fall, and came home with many ideas. Student Council completed many activities such as chapel programs, improving facilities, a fashion show, updating the dress code, Spirit Week, and Homecoming. Hopefully, some of these activities will carry on as traditions at GCA, established by the First Student Council. Group Photo (Left to Right) C. Coalson, K. Shokes, R. Weeks, N. Johnson, T. Hood, L. Mabry became the inspirational leader for our team on and off the field. 54 — Sports GCA Soccer A Broken Record Teamwork and good sportsmanship characterizes the GCA soccer team at all their games. This year's cersion of Crusader soccer was truly a dream come true. Never has a team on this level experienced an undefeated season. The 10-0 record speaks volumes in itself, but it does not say what the coach and many players pray. We pray that God will be glorified and exalted, for it was He who allowed us to be part of this fine experience. Croup Photo (Front to Back): J. Carter, R. Ayers, J. Henderson, B. I % Dodson, C. Bolton Sports — 55 Beating Maclay three times and Malone twice were just two of the feats accomplished this year. A total team effort would best explain this year's success. The return of two juniors, who were missing from last year's team, helped to stabilize the offense and defense. Mike Mercer had an outstanding year in the goalie position, making many critical saves. Cliff Straughn returned at forward for the team and provided a much needed passing game. Chuck Goodwin again led the team in scoring with 15 goals. He has become the school's all-time leading scorer. Our utility man this year proved to be another valuable asset. Toby DuBose, after overcoming early ankle problems, became a key factor at fullback. David Pinson, Johnny Henderson, George Young, Berry Dodson, Scott Haire, Bo Hamilton, Robbie Ayers, Wade Kelly, and Joe Carter all made significant contributions at their respective positions. Team, field maturity and desire proved to be two main reasons for our undefeated season. Numerous school soccer records were broken: most goals scored in one season, 52; least goals allowed in a season, 9; most wins in one season, 10; most goals scored in a single game, 12; and most shots taken in one season. To be sure the 1985 soccer season will long stand in the memory and heart of players, coaches, and fans. Nine of the eighteen matches went three games which was exciting to the fans. Many of the games were close, which added even more excitement. It was at the beginning of the season and helped provide enthusiasm for the rest of the schedule. The three wins in district play earned third place in District 4-A behind Maclay and North Florida. The team was thankful for using the gym for the first time for volleyball this year and are looking forward to next year. Group Photo (Front to Roar) S. Kimscy, L. Pontoriero, A. Pickett. K. Their first goal was to develop their basic skills. Their second goal was to gain valuable game experience, and the third goal was to mature in spirit, as individual Christians and as a team. Two team leaders were Leslie Whiddon and Will Breeden. Two other eighth graders, Keith Dean, and Greg Melvin were also valuable assets to the team. The leading seventh grader was Ryan Elzie who scored a high of 10 points in two games. David Bryant, Kevin Hamilton, Dean Clayton, and Russell Suber all played key roles in their games, and developed over the season. The coach hopes and prays that these nine players will continue to strive for excellence in their academic, athletic, and spiritual lives. Group photo: (Front to Back) K. Dean, Coach: R. A year of supposed rebuilding brought a very satisfying 12-12 record. Anchored by four seniors and three experienced juniors, the team played together extremely well. With a little more consistency in shooting the team could have had an outstanding season. The team morale and spirit was the asset the team used to make this a great year. A young pitching staff showed signs of great promise and should blossom next season. 76 — Sports OPPONENT ■■■ Mt. Much improvement was made, both defensively and at the plate. The team played a tough schedule and had its ups and downs. They set out to show that the 18-2 season was no fluke. After dropping the first two games of the season it seemed like the bubble had burst. But our experienced players determined not to give up and proceeded to run off eight wins in a row. The team ended the year with a 10-5 mark. Only one senior, Lori Wagoner, graced our team this year, but her inspirational play was extremely important to this team. With six freshmen on the team and returning with four experienced juniors good things should continue to happen in the spring for Lady Crusader Softball. 80 — Sports Golf Team Under the leadership of Coach Tom Bolton, the three man team putted to their heart's content. Hopefully, within the next couple of years we will see a drastic improvement in our golf program. We have been inspired by what potential we have seen this year. Add: R. Suber, W. Breeden, C. The Lion's Club invited them to share the work and the proceeds from the FSU football game food booth which netted the Association $1,340.16. The annual garage sale earned $1,026.45. With the total income of $4,272.48, the Association bought volleyball equipment, a pitching machine for use in softball and baseball, material and labor for Varsity cheerleader uniforms, and building material for the sports equipment building erected on the athletic Fields. The Association set up a savings account for movies gained through the auctioning of donated items from area merchants for the purpose of buying badly needed fans for the gym ATHLETIC BANQUET As annual as the spring flowers bloom, so comes our annual sports banquet at G.C.A. This year the banquet centered around the theme of honoring God and serving through the vehicle of our sports program. Our top athletes and teams were honored with trophies and plaques. Mrs. Barbara Stof- fell was the special speaker. Campaign For Excellence Under the leader- ship of Mr. Herb Schutte, along with Secretary, Dianna Weigman, a hard and long-houred campaign was held. By May 30th, they hope to attain their goal of $200,000. Class History Our class has been truly one of a kind. We have done so many crazy things in the past years. It all began in kindergarten when some of us met for the first time. Once some of our class got together, it was hard to split us apart. Playing chase, where the boys kiss the girls, became a regular habit for us. Vince seemed to think he should be the one kissed by all the girls. Next year was wonderful first grade I'll never forget the time Carole stuck her tongue out at Mrs. Godwin. Boy, was she in a lot of trouble. The most exciting year was second grade. Mrs. Lester thought we were all just angels (She found out different though, because of our constant talking in class). Writing the Daily News became so monotonous that by the end of the year we could write it in our sleep. In the third grade, we had a new student. Greg Emery. Stacy Beane had such a crush on him that she even brought her camera to school to remind her of her first love. We didn't care about Stacy and her first love though, all we were interested in was arts and crafts. I'll bet Mrs. Barnett still has those green arts and crafts buckets that we used. Fourth grade was remembered for two things. First of all, wrap around skirts were in style. There was only one problem though. Mrs. Baldwin couldn’t keep her's wrapped around. Second, Tami was a new student this year. She has such musical abilities that she and Mrs. Baldwin sang a duet at McDonald's while the rest of us were humiliated by having to do zippity-do-da The following year, fifth grade, we were taken to the Chattahoochee Dam.We also had another new student this year. Richard Chamberlain. This boy had one problem and that was he liked to run away. I'll never forget the time that he ran away in P.E. class, and all of us ended up praying for him on the school bus. In sixth grade, we had a new teacher, a male teacher. We didn't really know what to expect having this kind of teacher, but we sure didn't mind. (At least the girls didn't). We girls thought he was the best looking man we had ever seen. I think he must have opened the girls' thermoses at least a million times at lunch everyday. Finally seventh grade arrived! Boy, we thought we were BIG now. We got to change classes. We had hit maturity, or at least we thought we had. But, then again, having Mr. Mason as a homeroom teacher doesn't teach you much about maturity. Last Will And Testament We, the outstanding, well-behaved, hard-working, scheming, crazy, gorgeous, and perfect CLASS OF 1986, do hereby leave a priceless inheritance to our underclassmen, whom we all love dearly. May we always be close to their hearts, and may we never be forgotten. I, TROY ARTHUR, do hereby will my fast-racing machine to Chuck Goodwin, my mustache to Johnny Darsey, and my ability to stay out of trouble to Brian Ray. I. ALLISON BEACH, do hereby will my GATOR tag to Mike Mercer in hopes that one day he will become a full- blooded Florida Gator fan. I. STACY BEANE, do hereby leave my ability to act stupid to George Young, my ability to talk and laugh to Keith Jones, and my paranoia to Beth Edwards. I, STACY BLACKBURN, do hereby will my mechanical abilities to Johnny Darsey. because nothing ever works, and my ability to get out of class to everyone. I. CAROLE BROCK, being of strangely-off mind and al- ways hungry stomach, will my ability to eat any kind of food, good or bad, any time of the day or night, convenient or not convenient, to my favorite little cousin, Vicki Tolar. I, GREG EMERY, do hereby will my pocket dictionary to Mike Murray so that he will always be able to understand what Mr. Rukes is talking about. I, BUDDY FASON, being of tired-of-school body and great personality, do hereby leave my ability to make Mrs. Young mad to Rex Shiver, the meat on my bones to Cliff Straughn, my good manners to Chuck Goodwin, and all my other great qualities to everybody. I, ANGIE JENSEN, being of sound mind and body, do hereby leave my great driving abilities to Cindy Brunson, in hopes that she will enter the Demolition Derby. I also Lori Wagoner was a new student in eighth grade. She was so smart that we all envied her intelligence, and we still do today. There is one thing that we don't envy though, and that is her height. Not too much happened in ninth grade. I guess we wer- en't very active that year. Tenth grade was our year! We had another new student, Kelly Jollay. She became part of our class really fast. We fussed so much with Mr. McManus that by the end of the year he was definitely tired of us. The next year, eleventh grade, we were really anticipat- ing our Senior year. We just couldn't wait until it was our turn to rule-the-school! Twelfth grade holds many memories for us. (A new student, Michelle Lewis, the Valentine's Banquet. Fall Fes- tival, FSU ballgames. and of course our loving sponsor Mrs. Young). Without these things throughout this year, our lives wouldn't have been so exciting. We have enjoyed our many years at GCA and we hope your memories here will be just as enjoyable as our's were. Remember when: — We sang before lunch everyday in kindergarten. — Angie waved to her Papa at kindergarten graduation. — Carole and Stacy hated each other. — Mrs. Milner spanking us for not sleeping at nap time. — Angie wetting her pants in second grade. — The Daily News. — Mrs. Lester reading Little House on the Prairie books to us. — Stacy and Carole were in love with Keith and Kevin Gay. — Vince brought Superman records and comic books to school. — Show Tell in first grade. — Carole's hand got run over by the bus, and the driver was Mr. DuBose. — Mrs. Baldwin ate bananas. — The Faculty put on skits for us. — Buddy got seventeen detentions (only in Mrs. Young's class) and never stayed for them. — The first day of speech class. — The day Carole forgot her lulnch. — Vince and Mabry fought in the bathroom everyday. — We had Mr. T for the first time as a teacher. — Mabry sabotaged Mr. McManus's fish tank. — We all hid in the girls' bathroom from Mr. McManus. leave my over-talking abilities to Vicki Tolar so that one day she will be more outspoken. I also leave my volleyball ability of sitting on the bench to my bench buddy — Lisa Pontoriero. I, KELLY JOLLAY, being of sound mind and body, do hereby leave my cheerleading ability and fun times I had on the squad to Susan Faircloth, my ability to spike a volleyball to Lisa Pontoriero, my craziness to Vicki Tolar (even though she does not need it), and my clothes to Alisha Pickett so that one day she might grow into them. I leave my southern accent and funny words to Kelly Barber, and my patience and understanding to Mrs. Young so that she will be easy on the Juniors, who will be Seniors next year. Last, but definately not least, I leave my hear heart and love behind with Rex Shiver, Because that is where it will always be. I, MICHELLE LEWIS, leave my average grades to my brother Phillip, who definately needs them, my position as Mrs. Young's student aid to whoever gets it, and my bas- ketball talents to all the stars of the bench, since that is where I spent most of my time. And finally, I leave my secretarial abilities to the office staff; I know I was not much help, but I enjoyed the laughs. I, MABRY SHOKES, being of burned-out mind and tired body, do hereby leave my ability to sleep in anyone's class to Dusty Busby. Sweet dreams. Dusty! I, DANNY SIRMONS, being of sound mind and body, do hereby will all my nicknames to Greg Melvin, whether he wants them or not. I. Fanny Brice Prophecy Join with me as we look twenty years into the future. All of he scenes we are about to see all taking place in the year of 2006. What is this that we see? Why! It is Carol. She is married to helly, has ten kids, and has just opened a chain of new fast ’ood restaurants. Across the street is the championship wrestling ring. Why? There's Kelly and Rex. They look as tan and muscled as ever; ex is wrestling Kelly into a headlock just like he used to do in peech class. Let's buy a paper!! Whose this on the front page? It's Greg! -Je's become infamous terrorist and Vince Rutten is the private nvestigator asking for dues to fund him. Where is that coming from. Look across the street. There's Juddy surrounded by a mob of girls. All of them are yelling, 'Buddy is a cool Dude!'' There is Mabre Shokes. He spends his spare time, protesting pending poor innocent teens to Haiti. Rumor has it, Michelle Wells lives in Paris and designs rlothes for Wal-Mart. Allison Beach has left her chain of drug stores and Lori A agoner has left her accounting firm to help Vince find him to varn him not to hijack Danny Sirmons' plane. Troy and Henry are members of the U.S. Hot Rod Academy and Stacy Blackburn repairs their engines in his spare time. Stacy spends the rest of his time manufacturing KitKats. Let's watch some television on channel 3. We find Beth Smith is now starring with Red Hollan on his own fishing show. Look, there's Stacy Beane. She's a psychologist now; and it appears she has overcome her wearing of makeup; The com- pany had to go out of business. Michelle Lewis has taken Jim Hensen's place as the manager of the muppets and Angie Jensen is a psychologist for the criminally insane. John, her husband, desperately needs her help because of her nagging. Well, we've almost found everyone, but there's still two peo- ple missing. JoAnn and Tami. I'll never forget how reserved JoAnn used to be. Wait, what's this? Everyone quiet! There is a special news bulletin coming on. It's JoAnn! She's become a newscaster for eyewitness news and she's giving us the latest update. Tami Till, our new U.S. President, has just taken action against Libyan terrorism. Now that we've found everyone, we know they've all done quite well for themselves. It looks like Mrs. Lester was right after all. These kids really know how to get what they want. I can waste it, or use it for good, but what I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. 148 — Epilogue When tomorrow comes, this dayi will be gone forever leaving in its place something I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss, good, not evil, success, not failure, in order that I shall not re gret the p'ricTT paid for it. _ Anonymous JOSTENS
