Mr. Larry A. DuBose Headmaster “The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind in other men the conviction and the will to carry on.” Walter Lippmann Mr. J. Darsey Business Manager Mr. T. Mason Counselor Mr. Thomas Bolton V. Principal During a students’ years at GCA, he will be exposed to some of the outstanding leaders in America today. Whether it be in chapel, in the classroom, or in every- day conversations, a student has an opportunity to see men and women whom God has chosen to be leaders and upon whom He has endowed the strength of leadership. These leaders strive to instill in each of the students those principles which will enable the students to become tomorrow’s leaders. Thus, leadership, and the strength that accompanies it, is passed on to each succeeding generation. Natalie is now a math teacher at Rukes University Class History As I look back on our past twelve years together I recall many memorable occassions. It has always been said that our class was the worst in the history of the school. I believe if we really try we can all remember when: We played the kissing game in first grade The boys chased the girls and whenever a girl was caught Wes had to kiss her. Lucky for us Wes was never brave enough to. Contrary to popular belief we did make it to second grade where we met Mrs. Lester and the Daily News . I think we'll all agreee in saying getting the 'Daily News together was nothing like getting the Gadsden Grapevine together. We had some newcomers that year: Lisa Laslie. Allison Darsey. and Linda Kaye Stevens. Most of these girls were Georgia Peaches ; and what plump peaches. The next year we were blessed with our first grade teacher again. No! We didn’t fail. In third grade the teachers put on a skit for us. In this skit Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Elder (the sixth grade teacher) were twin boys, Mrs. Lester was the “perfect student . Mrs. Milner was the School Marm. and Mr. Dubose was the class dunce. You can be sure that was the only thing we learned that year. We were all looking forward to having Mrs. Hubbard in the fourth grade, but unfortunately we had chased her off, and poor Mrs. Baldwin was stuck with us. We have never figured out why the paddles Keith and Kevin Gaye kept making for her would always break on one of them. We were in for it when we started fifth grade. Mrs. Moore wasn’t about to let us get away with the things we had gotten away with in the past. Jeff Tharp joined our class that year and I think he still regrets it today. We all remember our trip to the Wilds that year when Wes and Jason turned over their canoe, and we all went swimming in 30 degree weather. In sixth grade we got Mr Mason, we also got Champ Whitfield. Kenneth Davis, and Leslie Brunson. We knew Leslie was bad news when he put tacs in our seats and we all sat on them. We soon regained our title of the worst class in school when we locked Mr. Mason in the cloak room. In seventh grade we had Mr. T. Bolton who truly tried to straighten us out. but we were so bad that year that we were put on probation. Aside from the bad news we had a lot of fun that year. We gained a new student. Natalie Kimbrell. and who ever thought shy little Natalie would be a Dirty Dozener . but it didn’t take long. We were even good enough to go on a field trip with Mr. Stevenson. We didn't know it was a trip to the swamp. I don’t know of anyone who came out clean. Maybe that’s why Mrs. Young named us the Dirty Dozen . By the eighth grade the teachers were drawing straws to see who had us. Again we were given to the new. unsuspecting teacher. Mr. Hartsfield. We thought we were pretty lucky when one of our fellow students. Anthony, got the lead of Philip Nolan in the school play A Man Without A Country . We did calm down a little that year considering Mrs. Young taught us with a paddle in her hand. I really can’t blame her. If someone, like Jimmy Grinner, had written on my covered wagon I wouldn’t treat him nicely either. Poor Ethan Porter got it that year. He was so tiny when Mr. Bolton paddled him he was thrown over the desk. Ninth grade was a year for Freshmen and three new students: Tammy Beloat, Tammy Bearden, and Julie Kraai. In tenth grade we truly were the “Dirty Dozen with only twelve students who were always up to no good. We had three Dirty Dozeners join us that year: Timmy Kirkland. Cherryl Strahan. and Richard Singer. Our Junior year was the best ever. We all drove our beautiful new cars to school. Well they may not have been beautiful but at least they ran, most of the time. We thought Richard was never going to get his out of the garage because he always claims he was waiting for a part that was in the mail. Well I don’t think it takes 7 months to get a part. Mine was in the shop at least once a month, and it wasn't for a tune-up either By the time I made it to my Senior year the car didn’t and now has a permanent resting place in my front yard. This was the year of “Cornmeal Champ”. I don’t think a day went by that he didn’t call someone a cornmeal or Richard didn’t get kicked out of Mrs. Head’s class for gum. talking, disrupting the class, spit balls, etc. Cornmeal was so popular we even established a Cornmeal cheer. No year can top the Senior year. Angela Bolton and Jeff Nicodemus joined our class this year, and Timmy Kirkland was brave enough to come back and join us for our final year together. We all remember the fund raising we did. The football games, the fall festival. Oh. and what a festival it was when Wes dunked Mr. Rukes and he came bursting out of the side of the dunking booth. Timmy informed us that he finally broke a hundred pounds this year, and Wes informed us that he refuses to fly to Mexico. With all the bad reports of our class in the past let’s hope the future holds brighter goals. But no memories can top those of our high school days. 118 I. The simple happenings of today Will be great memories tomorrow, And the fact that we can’t do it again might bring us a bit of sorrow. Yet the simple fact that we’ve lived life once. Will let us think it a success And the years to come will prove to us this year has been better than all the rest. 120 t ✓ X V - t
