WE ARE INDIV It INTERESTS, AND VARYING IN OUR 3 How is it that out of the diver- sity among us there arises a sense of belonging? Like the headwaters of a stream, we are joined togeth- er. Out thoughts and our ac- tions create the current which surrounds us — which pro- pels each along his course. 5 The current runs mostly calm and deep. For it is the cur- rent’s depth that determines a stream’s energy — just as the depth of our pride deter- mines the energy of our spir- it. For though pride is an individ- ual experience, it is also a force that binds us together — that makes us GCA. 6 DR. LAWRENCE A. DUBOSE Dr. Lawrence A. DuBose Headmaster Dr. DuBose is a member of the Christian Educators’ Association of the Southeast, Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education, the Gadsden County Ministerial Association, the Council for Basic Education, the Rifle Association, and the Aircraft owners Pilots Associ- ation. He was licensed to the Baptist ministry in 1967 and was ordained in Januray 1975. MR. THOMAS W. BOLTON Mr. Thomas W. Bolton H.S. Supervisor Mr. Bolton’s responsibilities include the administration of the high school and coaching. He is a member of the National Fellowship of Christian School Administrators, Christian Educators’ Association of the Southeast, and is active in local athletic leagues. 8 MR. JOHNNY K. DARSEY MR. TERRELL MASON It’s rare these days to find people who care for others as much as they care for themselves This era of self interest that we live in has created a world that disregards the dreams of the young and perpetuates the mistakes of the old But we at GCA are fortunate to have the presence of people whose goal it is to make the dreams of the young people into reality The pride they help to build within us in the office or classroom, joined with their sincere concern for others, makes us feel that they are living their lives to make our lives more enjoyable and profitable MRS. Whiddon, S. Baxley Cheerleading The 1982-83 Cheerleaders consisted of four seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores. After cheerleading camp, they were all prepared for the 83 basketball season. Although they worked hard in preparation for cheering this season, they really enjoyed themselves. They 36 showed their team great support. Lisa McQuaig, Captain Denise Goodwin, Co-captain Ronda Brunson Mary Ellen Weeks The graduating cheerleaders this year are Denise Goodwin, Ronda Brunson, Lisa Me Quaig, and Mary Ellen Weeks. These four girls added a lot to the squad of 1982-83. They not only presented leadership, but also friendship for the rest of the girls. Lisa Me Quaig was captain of the squad, and Denise Goodwin was co-captain. They will not be here next year, but their memory and experience will stay with their underclassmen, because of the fine example they presented. 38 Mrs. P. Hamilton, advisor Spirit Week lead to Homecoming night, there were different activities each day. All of the activities were well participated in, but Thursday had by far the most active participants with Richard Singer as “Miss Richard Singer” and Anthony Caracausa as “Ozzie Osborne.” Fun was had by all! Two of those four victories were in Jacksonville where the team came from behind in the closing minutes to win 39-36 and 25-23. In those games GCA scored 19 and 15 points in the last quarter. Another outstanding game was on Homecoming night. The J.V. Crusaders scored its most points in one game defeating Maranatha Christian 50-40. The final record was 7-12. Chuck Goodwin, captain of the team, led the scor- ing averaging eleven points per game. He scored in double figures eleven times, his best being 26 in one and 20 in another. The highlight of this streak was definitely the biggest win that our team has ever had. The Crusaders stunned the Eagles of North Florida Christian, 68 to 63. The season ended on a high note with GCA taking the championship trophy at the Liberty Christian Invitational Tourna- ment in Pensacola. The Crusaders also placed Mark Tharp and Wes Breeden on the All-Tournament team. This is what his coach has to say about him; “The close of the 1982-83 basketball season brought with it the close of a very fine high school senior’s basketball career. Mark Tharp has represented GCA as a basketball player for seven years. He has earned a Varsity letter for the past four years. He also holds every scoring record for GCA, but there is something more important than these statistics. Mark was a player who had a great desire to be like the Lord and show forth a Christlike spirit through his play. It has been a great privilege for me to coach this young man. Mark scored a career total of 1205 points for a 19 point average. His single game high is 39 points.” MARK A. THARP 55 Left to Right: Front Row: B. Tolar, H. Walsh, G. Greene, K. Jones Second Row: K. Young, Advisor. 112 114 116 117 Cia History Our 12 year of toil and trouble have finally come to a close A we reflect upon our year together we will recall the highlight of our youth A we look in on Mr Moore fifth grade cla s we see several familiar face Carole Barber. L. a McQuaig. Jon. Lett. Dayton Jones and Gary Week A wedding has just taken place In the hallowed hall of GCA Mis Lisa McQuaig and Mr Gary Weeks were united in holy matrimony by the Rev Dayton Jones. Witnesses. Carole Barber and Jom Lett were present. It was a very moving ceremony In sixth grade we were introduced to Mr Tom Bolton Boy. wa he tough' He was o strict that we were too petrified to ask him anything One day In English cla s Terri Sykes just held it until she couldn't any longer Too late, she finally asked Mr Bolton if she could go to the restroom As she walked out of the room it became apparent that she had waited too long, for there, under her desk lay a small puddle Needless to say. things soon changed afterwards Seventh grade brought many changes No longer did we consider ourselves mere children We were changing classes now. In eighth grade we moved over to our brand new high school building Who would have believed we would be moved in already’ The air conditioner wasn't here until winter and the heating did not come until the summer but nevertheless we had our building Ninth grade is full of many memories Who will ever forget our science teacher. Jim Stevenson? Days in his class were mostly spent learning about snakes and birds or playing our favorite card game murder Come a Friday we would often go on field trips (and may I state they were field trip to swamps, nvers. beaches) looking for various species of snakes. What fun' Looking back at tenth grade we see several aspiring young ladies practicing their first ad Mary Ellen Weeks volunteered to let Carole Barber and Denise Goodwin practice Neither Carole nor Denise could quite decide on the proper way to wrap a head but each proceeded wholeheartedly until Mary's face was fully covered from view It was quite a work of art. The highlights of eleventh grade was speech class Everyone became so nervous the hour before their speech One day in speech class Lisa McQuaig forgot her poem and cried We had nothing but ulcers all year long Finally came our senior year. It was filled with many exciting times We worked the FSU concessions during the fall We sponsored a Western Round-Up and the Valentine Banquet We went on our senior trip to Washington D C and visited such places as the White House and Colonial Williamsburg It took us a while but we finally decided on one style for our invitations Trying on our caps and gowns was exciting. Now. we know why everyone holds their head so high It's like balancing a book on your head! We may not have much time together now that the year draws to an end but these will be memories that we will cherish forever. Remember when Lisa and Mary got into a fight Pat Higdon put Mr Billings lunch box on the intercolm Kevin White didn't talk about cars. Van Ausburn made all the girls say I si yo' nigger slave. W played Peanut of the Apes Denise. Ronda. and Carole sang_l'Jimmy Crack Corn for Mrs. Hamilton during P.E. Pat G. and Kenneth t.ped” Carole's car Donna Stewart and Rodney Bedsole were an item Cathy Manning hit the volleyball with her head instead of wtth her hands Stephanie Wiggins fell out of her chair during My Fair Lady. Everyone crammed into Jom Lett's car to see how many could fit in. Mark and Leslie weren't together Brent hit his head on the mirror of the stewart Sandwich truck Denise lost her mother's shoe in the sewer Pat Higdon fell out of his seat and crashed into the wall during history class Ronda was sent out of Mr Hartsfield’s class for having a smirking look on her face Denise drove Mr Mason's car and gave Ronda. Mary and Donna whip-lash Pat G. and Ronda were inseparable Mary used to say Don't you what me! Denise and Mary dragged Dayton into the girls' bathroom, and he took all the blame. Kim Gainous knocked over the trash can while demonstrating her ballet techniques Mary gave Dayton his first kiss Dayton and Charlie put chalk in Mr R's erasers Prophecy The newspaper dates May 17. 1993. As I sit in the den of the home I share with my husband and two kids, reading today's paper, my mind wanders back to my senior year. 1983 Remember Mrs. Lester, our English teacher, who always stressed the importance of getting the paper out on time? Who would have thought that we would be making headlines 10 years later? Splashed across today's front page is the news of Gadsden County’s biggest lawsuit Jom Lett Neel Is being sued by the school board for trying to teach her six kids at home Who can afford tuition these days? Jom says Below her story I see that Mary Weeks. TV's most hated soap opera star is coming to town next week for our 10 year reunion The article says that Lisa McQuaig. hairdresser for the stars in Hollywood, will also be coming to town In the advertisement section on the next page. I see many ads by 1983 graduates Mark Tharp, owner of the multimillion dollar chain of Quincy Meats is opening up a new store in Paris Sharing his advertisement space is an ad for Le Petite Restaurant owned by Leslie, his wife Next to their ads is one of Tolar's Exxon Station owned by Brent Tolar Seems like pumping gas has its rewards Below the ads is an editorial written by Rev Patrick Gaver. Pat is currently the biggest TV evangelist since Billy Graham His article is an evaluation of the new best selling novel entitled Blondes Don't have more Fun written by Denise Goodwin Writing to get away from the pressures an orthodontist must face has finally paid off The TV section is full of interesting shows this week The U S. Open airs on Saturday Everyone is betting on Patrick Higdon, current World golf champion, to win for the 10th time. Skipping class to play golf turned out to be rewarding after all. Also premiering Saturday is the new country cooking show starring Stephanie Wiggins. Her show is a spin off from Julia Child's old show, entitled OOO Child' The feature story on the last page reveals that stock car driver Kevin White has wrecked for the 50th time this year. He is in Quincy Medical Center, being attended by the head nurse. Cathy Manning, who is still trying to convince Kevin to paint his car Cathy is training nurses under the guidance of the chief of staff. Ronda Brunson It's good to know Kevin's In good hands At the bottom of the huge metropolis newspaper, the Coonbottom Corner, announcing the reunion of Gadsden Christian Academy's 1983 graduating class I put my newspaper down so I can grade my 4th grade class at GCA. and call a few people to try to gain support for the 2nd phase of our new gym As I gase through the window and over the yard. I remember the time 1 spent with my friends at Gadsden Christian and pray that each and every one of us have found our calling, and God's will for our lives 118 CLASS WILL I, CAROLE BARBER, being of sound mind and sufficient body, do hereby will my long, lanky legs to Alan Suber, in hopes that he will be able to look at Alisha Pickett on eye level.
