They have a large share in all of our victories and in all of our defeats. They not only serve as educators but as advisors, friends, and counselors. They have molded our characters and have guided our beliefs. Theirs is a job which receives little thanks, but perhaps it is the most deserving. Although we are the generation of the future the quality of that genera- tion lies in their hands. Mr. Tom Bolton Assistant Principal 13 Most accomplishments described as being great have been the result of hard, dedicated work by those who have set goals and held to them. A “great” school doesn't just happen; it results from years of accomplishment in all areas — curricular and extracurricular by many who consider the goal worth the sacri- fice, work, and committment. Two secretaries and one business manager keep the offices at GCA in working order. Among their countless duties these employees oversee all fund raising projects, manage registration of all students, and help with various duties. They have con- tributed to making the green and gold shine a little brighter. 1. Mr. J. Darsey Business 2. Mrs. J. Darsey Secretary 3. Mrs. J. Although comparitively small in number, the Class of '81 was a very tal- ented and enthusiastic group of individuals. Several unique activities occurred in the junior year, such as the Christmas program, banquet, and preparing for a great Senior year. For many juniors, this was the last year with many close friends who have shared many happy memories. 23 D. Barfield J. Brunson itir; M. Baxley H. Butler B. Blount K. Upon entering Senior High school, the tenth graders exercised many liberties in their selection of courses. For the first time, they were able to follow relatively specialized fields of study, either in college preparatory, or technical division of education. Their eagerness in classes promised success in the future at Gadsden Christian. B Stewart 33 35 Weekly Chapel Service Under the leadership of Mrs. Judy Bolton acting as advisor, the 1980 Sword and Shield staff endeavored to present the GCA student body, faculty, and com- munity with an accurate pictorial and written account of the 1979- 1980 school year. Meeting a minimum of once a week from September through February, the annual staff strove to combine their efforts into a single coordinated volume. A number of committees were responsible for the finances, art design, organizations, sports, and typing Others snapped pictures then spent time identifying students and faculty. The entire yearbook committee solicited patrons, and sponsored many activities to raise funds for yearbook production. 1 Speech Class Above: Front Row — K. Milner. D Wells, S. Sims Back Row — T. Carlton Nelson (Smith’s). Keith Jones (Salem), and Shane White (Valley-Hi) Following the trophy presentations, team members honored their coaches with special gifts. 58 After losing several Basketball games last year, the Crusaders returned with vigor and determination. The boys, even though they had been on the team since their junior high years, found themselves at many disadvantages. These athletes performed admirably, however, even when defeat was staring them in the face. We are still in our building years. 59 J. V.
