I he I980's arrived at Furman University without much fanfare, much like any other year. Except this year was different It was the beginning of a new decade, a decade just twenty years short of the future magical year, 2000 A.D. But the Eighties and the magical future arrived with many questions and prob- lems. And Furman was not immune to all of them. The outlook for the next ten or more years by the students and staff at Furman was optimistic. Everyone agreed that there were nationwide problems Furman could not and would not ignore. The energy crisis was one.
