By candlelight, the freshmen make their pledge to Furman University. Over at Geer the frosh lx ys experience unpacking . . . bedmaking on vonr own . . . the bull session next door with fifteen in one room . . . first day advice: ‘Get that rat cap NOW!” ... puzzlement over the week to come ... “My roommate hasn’t shown up yet . . . hot dogs: introduction to Furman food . . . cross town rides . . . frosh have plenty to learn . . . orientation, an outlook on the next four years. 1 must have gone over that SOMEWHERE in my notes last night! Meeting our advisors . . . handlxx k in ten easy lessons . . . first acquaintance with library ... What! classes on Saturday? .. . long lines before the military supply room ... crowds and confusion at registration time . . . the lighter side: pep rallies, meeting the girls, dating without Dad’s car . . . hurrah for co-education! Relax while you can. You may not have another chance.

This is where it all started . . . scared, excited, and wide eyed . . . after months of packing, planning, and day dreaming . . . the Frosh arrive, at hist . . . saying goodbyes and hellos all at once . . . roommates, rat caps, name tags, and ready to go. A glimpse at the 'Loo sees the over-worked elevator . . . shoe box wardrobes moving into match-box rooms, or so it seems to the Frosh . . . “Man on the hall , carrying luggage, of course . . . pennants, pictures, and high school mementos coming out of trunks and going up on walls . . . chaos . . . whatta day! Don't throw it away. Your son may someday wear it. Misery loves company—two rats console each Other.
