The program was planned to familiarize the freshmen with the history of Furman and the things that college students will be expected to do. Members of the Advisory Board were: Jack Powers, Oon Gant, Ray Robbins, John Plylcr, Howard Walters, Jimmy Watts, Frank Vernon, Aubrey Daniels, Bill Hunt, David Daniel, Tom Sawyer, Joe Cooper, Sam Blanton, John Hubbard, James Branham, Marvin Hughes, Jim Plyler, Billy Fallow. Paul Craven, Charles Howard, Heyward Cooke, Henry Bair, Clyde Nunn, Roger Poore, A! McNeely, Warner Bu'ke. Sam Horton. Freshman Advisory Board The Freshman Advisory Board was unique in that it was the first group of student leaders to present an orientation program on the campus. One day was spent at the Paris Mountain State Park. Led by Joyce Harris, student body vice-president, the program was arranged to include traditions, the Furman spirit, campus activities, and good advice about regulations. On the Sunday night during orientation, a joint service was held for freshmen men and women at the lake on the new campus. Members of the board were: Anne Baldwin, Jeanne Saunders, Kay McGee, Jane Terry, Frances Skelton, Lou Jean Moore, Ginger Coleman, Janie Wood, Ada Meeks, Elneda Padgett, Nancy McManaway. Day Students' Association The Day Students’ Association, composed of all non-residents, is a very important part of college life, and it functions in much the same way as the campus hall unit. The purpose of the association is to bring the day and boarding students closer together. The day students share with the boarding students the privileges and responsibilities of the college. They are represented on the Student Council and have their own council. Home at the “zoo to the day students is the Day Students' Lounge. The Day Students' Association has as its officers; Eloise Kennemorc, president; Rosemary Bridwell, vice-president; Heather Ann Satterfield, secretary-treasurer. 25

Student-Faculty Committee The Student-Faculty Committee is composed of a group of faculty members and students elected from the two campuses. This committee acts as an integrating factor between the men and women students to bring about a closer relationship between the students and faculty. The aim of the Student-Faculty Committee is to bring about harmony in all activities of interest to both campuses, to improve general morale, and to carry out plans and projects for the year. Students who belong to this committee are Frances Skeleton, Patsy Cook, Sue Patty, Tom Sawyer, Robert Stewart, and Henry Bair. The faculty members elected to this committee are Dr. Jack Flanders, Dr. Lindsay Smith, Dr. Winston Babb, and Mr. Ernest Harrill. 27
