SAM ARNOlO Director Furman Band The Furman Band, under the direction of Mr. Sam H. Arnold, won statewide acclaim for its performance this year. The forty-five members played all types of band and orchestral music. Spirited sonss and precision marching made the bond a feature at football games. In the spring the band toured the Carolinas and Georgia. On April 22 the annual spring concert was presented in connection with May Day Festivities. Playing for Commencement ended the year's work. MRS. SMITH A Capella Choir The Furman A Capella Choir combines the singins talent of almost fifty women students. The group, in its second year under its title of A Capella” and under the directorship of Mrs. Charlotte Reed Smith, increased its number and did most of its programs from memory. The major presentations of the group for the year were special musical programs at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter and a program of secular music in the spring. Officers were Hilda King, president; Catherine Hester, secretary Patsy Blair and Hester Welborn, publicity chairmen; May Frances Bailey, social chairman; and Ann Godshall, librarian. Accompanying the group at rehearsals was Sara Ann Gambrell.
