DAY STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION Formed in the spring of 1940 to unify day students and to bring day and boarding students closer together, the Day Students’ Association is now a vital part of the college life. It functions in much the same way as a campus hall unit. The Day Students have their own lounge and lockers. The members share the privileges and responsibilities given to all students. It is represented on Student Council and has its own Council. The officers arc Anne Marie Phillips, president; Eloise Kennemore, vice-president; Hilda Wilson, secretary-treasurer. Council members are Clista Huff, Jo Evelyn Snyder, Gretchen Weber, Pat Jennings, Anne Nicholson, Margaret Ulmer, Nell Harding, Freddie Steadman, Genevieve Williams, and Mrs. Gales Roane. R«t Row. BENJY TRULUCK DON GANT RICHARO ARCILESI. Faculty and student advisors worked together this fall to make the orientation program meaningful to freshmen. Tours of the campus and discussions of regulations and organizations served, we hope, to familiarize the new students with our campus. The program was directed by Bob Deaton, vice-president of the student body. Assisting him were: Richard Arcilesi, Ray Austin, Thomas Belcher, Jack Brantley, John Cann, Charlie Clegg, Joe Cooper, Joe DeVore, Don Gant, Brock Gordon, John Hubbard, Marvin Hughes, Bill Hunt, James Jordan, Jim Keller, Charles King, Bill Mc-Eachern, Dan McGee, Phil McKinney, Bill Reames, Jerry Monroe, Harold Ross, Jack Rowan, Tommy Sawyer, Benjy Truluck, Frank Vernon, and Mickey Walker. Members of the Freshman Advisory Board of 1954 made history in that they were the last group of student leaders to accompany the freshmen on the traditional three-day orientation session at Caesar’s Head. Several days after the yellow busses had brought the girls back down the mountain, the historic Caesar's Head Hotel burned, ending a fifteen-year tradition of orientation sessions at that beloved spot. With Dee Riles, vice-president of the student body, presiding, members of the Board got the class of 1958 off to a good start with advice about regulations, traditions, and the Furman spirit. Members of the Board were: Sally Watson, Mary Lane Cleland, Hilda King, Jeanne Saunders, Ann Baldwin, Rebecca Taylor, Frances Skelton, Marlene Campbell, Kay McGee, May Frances Bailey, Cathy Hunter, Janie Wood, Joyce Flynn, Sara Ruth Higgins, Sara Galloway, Barbara Smith, Anita Heckle, Emma Jean Walker, Elneda Padgett, Ann Marie Phillips, Sara Lou Lever, Nell Harding, Nancy McManaway, Pat Smith, and Margaret Riddle. 20
