WARM-UP. NO MERCY! RATTING . . . PLACARDS . . . FRESHMEN DEFLATED Ratting was almost entirely obsolete this year on the men’s campus ... just because the Freshman Class was almost twice as large as the Sophomore Class . . . but on the womens campus, the mighty Sophs showed no mercy ... this was the year the girls laid it on thick . . . one Rat Court meeting was the only scheduled excitement that the men had . . . however, placards were always worn before ball games by “ratinen'’ . . . more spirit . . . the girls were late getting rat hats . . . the situation was remedied by wearing signs, I am a rat without a hat . . . the boys never did get around to a special rat day program . . . again, the women outshone them by staging a gigantic show on their athletic field . . . all rats were dressed suitably . . . big ears . . . whiskers . . . bowing to sophomores ... a swell time for all . . . but the femmes were glad when it was over . . . the sophs lowered the egos of the rats and raised theirs ... the end of ratting . now they were full-fledged Furmanites . . . never will forget the chase for rat hats from other schools . . . ball game tussles ... a couple of dillies to add to collections. GIVE ME LIBERTY. ON MY HONOR.

BONHOMIE PICTURES . . . “AH, WILDERNESS” The alarm goes off too soon ... too often ... roommate’s troubles ... I have enough of my own . . . “Will those freshmen ever grow up?” . . . A phone call for me? ’ . . . “If it’s from Georgia, tell him I’m not here” . . . constant waiting at “the desk” . . . “How do I know which one to rush for! ... Daisy Chain, Dutch Treat, and Magnolia became everyday words . . . just try to push through the canteen between classes ... “Stop the bus ‘til I get there!” The Zoo weekly infested with Cowdets . . . the men’s campus swarming with big cars filled with Greenville High girls . . . freshmen agog, in both cases ... “Nothing ever like this before . . . love begins to blossom . . . rings that fit are replaced by smaller or larger ones ... W. C. is filled with gold numbers 1, 2. 3. 4 . . . signifying preference of lineage? . . . Block “F” becomes a place for rides . . . all in all it amounts to that which makes the world go ’round. Bonhomie pictures . . . everyone scrambling to have his picture made . . . some waiting until after the week is over to discover that he has not been photographed ... Sorry, too late” . . . “What!” .. . “I’m a senior . . . “Signs were posted two weeks ago that yesterday would be the last day, it was plainly stated on your appointment card that no other appointment could be made, the Hornet published last week a reminder that yesterday was the last day” ... “But, I’m a senior . . . never a pleasant day for the dear old eds . . . the professors with their dread of camera . . . time will tell . . . “Is it possible to have my picture made another day?” . . . next . . . after three weeks of this torture for all, the photographer departed. Student picnics missed this year ... replaced by unsuccessful sings in Fine Arts . . . the first play of the year, “Ah, Wilderness, finally had enough script to be presented . . . about this time announcements were sent out concerning Junior English exam . . . everyone wondering whether to study or hope for the l est ... in the end, it wasn’t as bad as we had thought . . . study continued . . . grades slumped lower. IMPOTENT TRIBUNAL WEEDING THE CHASS? 17
