SENIOR CUSS HISTORY Confused Green Freshmen! There was no other description for us when we entered Fuquay High School in 1946. We found it very difficult adjusting ourselves to the ways and regulations of high school. Soon the year had passed, and we had climbed one step in the ladder of our high school career. As sophomores we began to enter into the school activities with a greater zeal. Jack Guthrie was chosen the president of our group. A memorable part of this year was bio¬ logy under Mrs. Holcomb. The Student Council was organized, and from our class Anne Clark was elected secretary; Melba Barbour, Melba Smith, Wiley Howard, and Leon Pearce, our representatives. d hen came the happy, fleeting days of our junior year, 4 his year was filled to the brim. Sam Holloway was elected our class president and served in an efficient way throughout the year. Our junior play, ‘For Pete’s Sake”, was a great success. The highlight of this year was the Junior-Senior Banquet, which was the first to be given in our new cafeteria. Some students in the school went to Williamsburg. Those from our class who went were Mary Elizabeth Adams, Clara O’Neal, Melba Barbour, Alice Faye Morton, Sue Caviness, Melba Smith, Carolyn Haire, and Wiley Howard. For the first time since 1945, we published a school paper, Hi Times. From our class Anne Clark, Carolyn Haire, and Wiley Howard served on the staff. Those attending Boys’ State and Girls’ State were Sam Holloway, Wiley Howard, Anna Stephens and Anne Clark. Seniors, at last! Our homeroom teachers were Miss Lucy Perkinson and Mrs. Paul N. Stack. Watson Adcock was elected president of the class. Jack Guthrie was president of the Student Council, and Melba Smith and Bruce Gunter represented our class. Our foot¬ ball team, which was one of the best yet, won the county championship. The senior class was well represented on the squad by sixteen members. Our basketball team also honor¬ ed the school with a county championship. Our Christmas Party stands out as one of the brightest spots of the year. Under the leadership of Miss Lucy Perkinson, our Senior play, “Mother Is a Freshman”, was a success. As we look back over our high school days,we remember our many happy experiences that we have enjoyed together. It is with many regrets that we realize our school days are drawing to a close. And now, the senior class of 1950 bids to you, dear ole Fuquay High, a fond “Farewell.” Page Nineteen
