VHLEUIEIUHH Parents, Teachers, Friends, and Classmates, the greatest question that every graduating class is facing today is that of peace. There must be a willingness to work together for this one big aim. peace. We must all have the democratic spirit. No nation, no individual can live in mental isola- tion. Each individual, each nation must know and understand the other's outlook and realize they are able to cooperate for the common good. Men and women throughout the world are per- severing in their search for the solution to the many vital problems which will face everyone of us as a graduating class. We do not want to give up our individual free- dom which we will have to give up if we have to fight a war every twenty years. To develop super states people must lose their individual freedom: There is no other way. We cannot have freedom of speech and press when conditions force censor- ship upon us. We cannot have private property guaranteed if qigantic public debts and inflation destroy our savings. All graduating classes should aspire to better conditions-better education, more leisure, better housing, more medical care, and social security. These conditions we cannot have unless we have a working program for peace. The peoples of all the nations should have a mutual ur derstandinq of each of the national governments and should be capable, through education and ur derstanding, of creating a legal order within whicf all peoples may enjoy equal rights under law. We should be loyal, virtuous, patriotic, an use our intelligence so that government of the pe: ple, by the people, and for the people shall nc perish from the earth. Classmates, we have reached the time of pax ing. May each one of us go out from here with th resolve that we will think, plan, work, and accon plish to the best of our abilities every task thc comes before us. There is much we can do an with these guide posts-kindness, understanding tolerance, and helpfulness-we should each on fill our place in society with happiness in our heart because we are striving to do our best. Teacher: your guidance and worthwhile advice which in th past has helped us, will in the future still guide u in our various courses of life. Our work in hig school is ended now. Each of us will take our di ferent paths, but always there will be a tie bindin us to you, the members of Fulton Township Schot and Community.-Carolyn Lowrey. SHLUHHUHH Parents, Teachers, and Friends: Welcome to the commencement of the class of '46, We wish to express our gratitude to you, our parents, teachers and friends, for your untiring ef- forts and devotion in making possible for us many of the advantages of modern day education. The sincere interest you displayed in us and our school has been a guiding light. Without your leader- ship we could not have reached the goal which we have attained tonight. As we leave these halls and enter into the world as the citizen of tomorrow, we realize that a great responsibility rests on us: the responsibility of preserving the blessings of peace in a war-tom world. The bloodiest of all conflicts, which has just ended, proved conclusively that democracy will survive despite the most concentrated efforts power-crazed men to destroy it. To us, Democracy means freedom, truth, ax brotherhood. Again we are reminded by the wo democracy of the prophetic insight of our forefathe who used this insight not for selfish gains but f the good of all. It was they who laid the found tion of our present educational system, witho which democracy could not long endure. Mc we go forth to carry out ostill further the work those who have gone before, and proclaim to c the world the blessings of peace and democracy. Your presence here tonight will be a furth inspiration to us to go out and do our best. C behalf of the senior class of 1946, again I welcon you to our commencement. -Wendell Some
