UBRARY Gnce more a group of falthful librarians have served the lnmate of F H durinc the school year of 1958 59 Good tlmes and lelsure moments have been given up by these glP1S ln order to carry out the true purpose of our library Qeveral new books and bound volumes of magazlnes have been ad ded to the accession 11st, maklng 1498 the total number of volumes in the library Meetings have been held each month, at whlch tlme any library problems or conflicts were discussed and solved The followlng girls have serxed one regular period each day, as well as short periods before and af ter school Irene Hoogheem, head llbrarlan, Har rlet Green, Helen Ottens, Miriam Sikkema, Charlene Shear, Dorothy Flikkema, Gertrude Hook, Ruth Huiz enga, Helen Field, and Sylvia Wiebenga Margaret Balk, Jeanette Feldt, and Sylvia Poel served as substitute librarians, and Miss Hunt and Eloise Shlpma have supervised the group, 38

ESSEFF CLUB On April l2, paradlng out in new Faster sults and dresses, the Esseff Club, made up of fifteen Sophomores and seventeen Freshmen, presented an Easter Cantata URedemption's Songn written by the well known composer of sacred music, Fred B Hol ton This was a public program given ln the Chrls tian Reformed Church This club met every Wednesday from 5 lO to 3 50 An Esseff seml chorus, composed of a few mem bers of the club sang at differ nt meetings of the high school and local organizations The officers were President Eleanor Voss Vice Presldent Camilla Nichols Secretary James Damhoff Treasurer Harvey Kettler Librarians Helen Ottens and Bill Drury Mirlam Sikkema was accompanist and Mlss Bell director of both Esseff and Glee Clubs 1 kj J W 57 so X' fa s nf fri L

'g v,: :il 1 ,- . -- - :g ' - r-- COMMERCIAL CON TEST F H S , on April 15, ente ed tne Distrlct Commercial Contest at Savanna Last year with Miss Peed's financial support stud rts from Ful ton repre ented ye Dutchmen 1n the contest Thls year flnanced by the school Fulton acain your neyed to Savanna to enter in Novice and Amateur typlng, bookkeeplng, and shorthand Those who went were Mis Reed and her Bulck, Jlm and hls Pontiac, Bill Hunt, Marjorie Boelkens, Ruth Huizenga, Mary E Mohrman, Alice Mae Faber, Lyle Hoogheem, Robert Abbott, Annabelle Ten Boer, and Miriam Sikkema There was plenty of competitlod, and Acquin proved to be tough competltlon They took hlgh honors ln practically everythlng, but the Dutch men showed the I ishmen in :O word dictatlon ln shorthand and came out first with ome pretty blue ribbons The Amateur typing team came out third, and Mary E Mohrman placed th1rd ln individual Amateur typing On May 6, Miss Reed with the shorthand team Jlm, Llz, and Marg, went to Mt MOPTlS to enter the sectlonal contest As we go to press the re sults are not known There's a lot of strain connected with these contests, out 1t'S lots of fun, too, Much of the honor goes to Miss Reed, since she is such an en husiastic instructor 1Q her CUNmGPC181 subgccts 39 O U U It 1 .
