FULTCNFCRU History of the Senior Class mm OMETHING like four years ago we were Freshmen, as green as a Freshman class ever was. In September, 1925, we assembled in the old building on the corner of Trinity Avenue and Whitehall Street. Before we had time to collect our wits our teachers marched us off to the Trinity Avenue Methodist Church, Where Mr. Dykes, our principal, explained the different courses to us. The following Monday, when our one large class was divided into nine sections, we began the first year of our high school course in earnest. Although we were handicapped by an out-of-date, poorly equipped build- ing, we enjoyed our lirst year as high school students. The real joy came when we entered the new building. We proudly boast that we were the first Fresh- men to enter the new building. By the time we became Sophomores we were well acquainted with our school and faculty, and loved them both. This year, due to a decrease in membership, it was necessary to divide our class in only six sections. We had now overcome our backwardness, to a certain extent, and proudly took part in school activities. Our class contributed the first Sophomore ever to make the Debating Team for the Fifth District meet. A Sophomore boy won fourth place in the State Bookkeeping Contest held in Macon. In our Junior year our class won more distinction. A Junior girl won second place in the State Home Economics contest. A Junior boy won sixth place in the State Bookkeeping Contest. The entire Debating team for the Fifth District meet, with the exception of one, was composed of Juniors. The president and secretary of the Dramatic Club were Juniors. A Junior boy was elected vice-president of the Hi Y Club. A great many of the Letter Club were Juniors, Our class furnished the captain of the boy's basket-ball team. We'll leave it to the reader to find a word to describe our feelings when we entered school, September, 1928. We were Seniors! We were so proud of the fact that we could hardly call ourselves dignified and tell the truth. Our class was composed of sections D-l, D-2 and D-3. As Seniors we were just a little more anxious to take a greater part in all school activities. A Senior was president of the Home Economics Club. The Dramatic Club chose a Senior for its president and one for its secretary. The president of the Hi Y was a Senior. The captains of the girls' basket-ball team, the boys' basket-ball team, the football team and the baseball team were Seniors. Seniors played a large part in the Debating Team, placing three members on the team. During our entire four years we have put forth the best we had to make our school better in every way. We attained the high record of scholarship and contributed liberally to every cause that concerned our school. To the class of '30 we leave the challenge to make a better record than we have made. -HELEN WALKER, DOROTHY EVANS. l 9 2 9
