MOTION We move — We think — We talk — We act — i CONTENTS Introduction Administration Faculty Classes Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Organizations Activities Sports Advertising FOREWORD In a short time the PILOT will lose its im- mediate appeal. In a short time, too, it will serve as some adult’s key to reminiscence. As remembrance is a yearbook’s purpose, the PILOT serves well only if it causes readers to remember high school in Fulton County, 1964- 1965. 2 We, the annual staff of 1965, proudly dedicate THE PILOT to Mrs. Mary Jo Fields, for whom we hold such high regard, both as a teacher and a friend. 3 PILOT STAFF EDITORS-IN-CHIEF JEAN JOHNSON and DIANE BINFORD SPORTS EDITOR JOE NEWTON CLASSES EDITOR ANN ADAMS ASSISTANT Steve Dyer BUSINESS MANAGER ASSISTANTS Sue Sublett Cecile White Billie Call PAT OWENS ASSISTANTS Linda Giles Janet Jennings ADVISOR MRS. A. held Open House. Each parent attended his child’s classes. OUR PRINCIPAL A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL To you, Seniors, the time you have spent in the past is history. The time coming possesses your future; it will all be determined in due course as to what each of you will attain. There will be no one to pave the way for you; this must be done by you and you alone. Sen- iors, this is a good world in which to live; yet it can often be a cruel world. Brace yourself for the pitfalls that are surely to come. Education will answer some of your problems, but not all of them. Performance, not conformance, would be an excellent guiding light for you in the future. Iff. A VUO vO Harold Garrison, Principal 7 Mr. J. C. These five students were selected to attend science research programs in the summer after their junior year. They are, from left to right: Beverly Westbrook, who studied chemistry at Murray State College; Billie Call, who studied physics, also at Murray; Jennifer Burcham, who studied psychology at Florida State University; Ann Adams, who studied physics at Western Kentucky State College; Mrs. Julia Davis, their science teacher; and Bob Watts, who studied physics at Murray State. 76 JENNIFER BURCHAM In the annual conservation essay contest sponsored by the Louisville Courier-Journal, Jennifer's essay on FISH AND WILDLIFE - ITS BENEFIT TO MY COMMUNITY took first place in county competition, and, from more than 60, 000 entrants, was selected third best in the state. Her prize was a $100 U.S. savings bond. These four boys were Boys' State representatives in the summer following their junior year. They were selected by the faculty on the basis of activities, grades, personality, and leadership qualities. They are, from left to right: Clarence McCollum, Bob Watts, Kyral Norville, and Joe Newton. 77 Last year these four students received their state degrees in agriculture and home economics; this was a first for any FCHS student. Joe Duke and Lynn Major were awarded their State Farmer Degree, and Sue Sublett and Pat Owens received their State Homemaker Degree. They are shown here with Mr. Bugg, agriculture teacher, and Miss Sublett, home economics teacher. Beverly Westbook, a senior, also deserves special recognition. She is one of 639 finalists chosen from 1300 contestants in the National Achievement Schol- arship Program, sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Beverly was selected on the basis of an original essay, her grades and activi- ties, and the personal opinions of teachers and school personnel. 78 FRONT ROW, left to right: H. Rice, D. Byrd, J. FOOTBALL - SPORT OF MEN Every one of the boys on this pag has proved that he has what it takes. These are boys who were fighting for you and your school every Friday night. This year we had no glory seekers. Every one of the boys was playing because he enjoyed playing. But more important because lie wanted to support his, and your, school. © Coach Lester spent many hours during prac- tice this season, showing relatively inex- perienced boys how to play football. Next year he should be rewarded with a winning season. Coach Jeff Lester CO-CAPTAINS Kyral Norville, Tommy Sheehan team gave these teams something to think about if we ever play these teams in the future. They realize thatF.C.H.S. is no second-rate school. It never will be if the students realize that no team or school can exist on a few stars, they must have teamwork. But the football team isn't everything at the game. The crowd plays an important part of any football game. Our followings have been very good this year. This shows that the students were behind the team all the way. Let's keep it that way; because that's what makes F.C.H.S. the best anywhere! 81 RICHARD STATHAM Quarterback SENIOR DANNY BURNS End DAVID SHELTON Guard STARS BOB WATTS Quarterback 84 And we thought they practiced HARD! ! ! As you can see by these pictures, the Pilots fought with undying determination throughout the season. Even though we lost this game with Obion County High, we never lost our spirit. PILOTS ON THE From left to right: Richard Statham, Eddie Taylor, Mike Taylor, Bob Watts, Roger Goodman, Jimmy DeMyer, Mike Sheehan, Bill Jennings, Don Wright, Tom Sheehan, Reggie Clack, Danny Rash, Johnny Sams, Jimmy Amberg, Stevie Shelton. Center: Coach John West, Assistant Coach Jeff Lester. •o ao CAPTAIN - TOMMY SHEEHAN Replacing their football uniforms with basketball uniforms got our basketball team off to a slow start this year. Though they started slowly, the boys de- veloped into a good, well-balanced team. Lack of height as well as lack of a real scoring threat, how- ever, proved to be a handicap when the Pilots faced taller, more experienced opponents. The Pilots, however, made up for it by showing the hustle and fine sportsmanship that have always characte1-' -d Fulton County teams. Although the season was a rather frustrating one, the Pilots never lost their spirit and never quit until the buzzer sounded to end the game. We feel that they have done a good job this year and that the school should be proud of them. 87 BOB WATTS Guard TOP TEN TOMMY SHEEHAN Center Captain STEVIE SHELTON Guard JIMMY DEMYER Forward DON WRIGHT Forward REGGIE CLACK Forward MIKE TAYLOR Guard RICHARD STATHAM Guard DANNY RASH Forward CHARLENE WILLIAMS CHEERLEADERS LOIS ISBELL NANCY SANGER SHELIA BASS LINDA HAWKINS SENIOR PILOTS Top row, left to right; Paul Glaser, Tommy Sheehan, Bobby Bequette; 2nd row; Danny Morefield, Bob Watts, Danny Burns; 3rd row: Kyral Norville, Richard Statham, David Shelton; Bottom row: Jennifer Burcham, Charlene Williams.
