Heap good smoke signals come from peace pipes. We as Fullerton Indians have proven during this past year that we are worthy of the reputation that ours is a peaceful and friendly reservation. In the following chronicle of the year ' s events we have attempted to show the importance of our activities in relation to the friendly atmosphere of the FUHS campus. We have en- deavored to moke known the activities in which the Ful- lerton tribe takes part that have put our reservation on the map. Locally, our reputation stems from the friendly relationship between the chiefs of the reservation, the students and the community. In this respect we are not faultless, but in projects like Operation SOC the In- dians worked to improve. Putting our campus on a coun- ty map was accomplished by such activities as GAA playdays where Fullerton girls met other girls from all over the county. Displays of both good sportsmanship and excellence in various fields gave Fullerton ' s reputation state-wide scope through such activities as boys ' athletics, dramatics and forensic work. On the national scene, Fullerton ' s accomplishments in the field most important to eventual international peace were displayed. That field — scholarship. Three students of the Fullerton tribe qualified as finalists in the National Merit Association Scholarship testing program. Five other Fullerton students received letters of commendation from the association. Fullerton ' s contributions to the attainment of world peace included sponsorship of two foreign exchange students, a clothing drive for the benefit of the needy citizens of Mexico and acting as foster parents for a young war orphan. To the Indian a peace pipe was symbolic of peace and friendliness. We feel that peace is an important goal of mankind and that we, the inhabitants of the FUHS reser- vation, should attempt to inspire others by what we have done toward that end. For these reasons we have chosen as the theme of the 1959 Pleiades Peace pipes of the Indians.
