Saw the Vision of the tvorld, and all the wonder that would be; Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails, Pilots of the purple twilight, dropping doicn ivith costly bales; Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain ' d u ghastly dew From the nation ' s airy navies grappling in the central blue; Far along the world-wide whisper of the south-wind rushing warm, With the standards of the peoples plunging thro ' the thunder storm; Till the war-drum throbb ' d no longer, and the battle-flags were furl ' d In the parliament of man, the federation of the world. — Tennyson Hi- ■mm sm mm : . . . ta t e StudeniA o t : ' Tftem nc zm Miss Lilian Rivers But when the sun in all his state. I hove taken this space to give my whole- hearted thanks to my staff. Without them, there wouldn ' t be a 1944 annual. In any kind of work there are only a few who have given there all to this production. And so special thanks go to Iria Funk, and Harrison Wright, photograph editor and photographer, respectively. These two spent more time on the annual than any of the others. These little Herbie Hornet ' s you see on the division pages were the ' ' brain children of Mary Lou Baldwin, Art Editor. The lively line of chaffer running through this year book was handled by Ruth deRunfz, copy editor. The remainder of the staff, Saxon LaTurner, Norman Stanley, Harriet Hart, Marjorie Nyboe, Shirley Peterson, all did their part to put the annual into form. I know we, the sfofT, gave Richard Warner Borst, our faculty adviser, many, many, unearned gray hairs. Many times, when we put our heads together, we actually wondered if we would hove a 1944 annual this year. And without his encourage- ment we wouldn ' t have one. I also express my appreciation to the Los Angeles Engraving Company represented by Fred H. Smith, and to Sam Babcock for our lovely covers. Local businessmen to whom I offer recognition are Norman Holve, for the sophomore class pictures, and Reynold ' s Studio for the faculty pictures.
