even under the most unreasonable circumstances he forms the hab1t of dolng exactly as he W1Sh6S w1th never a thought of the consequences Thls attxtude is carrxed over into adult l1fe and the indxvldual expects the same treatment from the people w1th whom he assoclates Whatever he does must be rlght for he has always been led to belxeve th1s When upsets begin to creep into the daily l1fe of the matur1ng man or woman he blames h1s parents teachers or someone else at any rate In no way does he reproach hlmself for h1s own actlons uood c1t1zens are not made ot such quahtles and the excessxve protectweness of our youth whxch causes some of the bad hablts to be formed must be stopped The foun datlons of character and personahty must be la1d wh1le attendmg secondary school and at that t1me general goals should be declded In school too we are pampered We complam that we are g1ven too much work When we go to college and to our Jobs we shall be expected to fulflll certam requxrements and some of us shall be unable to do so because we have not prepared ourselves When we f1nd we can not accompl1sh what lS expected of us we lmmedlately blame our teachers If we apphed ourselves more d1l1gently we would prove ourselves capable and upon enterlng our new posts we would f1nd ourselves adequately prepared Instead of accomphshmg what we can thmg shall be made easy for us The young adult must reahze that everyone 1n th1S world must make deC1S1OI1S and must meet obhgatlons and must learn to face success or fallure by hlmself Thus the attitude of self suff1c1ency lS a great and essentlal commodxty 1n the bu1ld1ng of a strong character It IS to be admlred We must learn to cultxvate a collectlve sense of resourcefulness If we do not learn to stop condemnlng other people for what we br1ng upon ourselves we w1ll become a natlon of people w1th no code We will be people wlth no sense of respons1b1l1ty and therefore w1ll accompl1sh nothlng Our clvilxzatlon shall decay and crumble and we shall be people w1thout home character or personallty Tomght this class of '59 has covered the ground work for the future May It be possible that the labors of all have not been in valn and may lt be poss1b1e that we attam the goals for whlch we str1ve through open mlnds wh1ch can forsee the reasons for the healthy outlook of the future As a WISE old Chxnese sage has sa1d The hlghest towers are bu1lt from the ground At th1s moment we stand on that grolmd and look up at those towers whlch are standlng stralght and erect and whxch are wa1t1ng for any one of us who strlves to reach the1r peaks from where we can survey the whole world ln all 1ts glory D 3 ' D 9 . 7 s ' . .
