Helping to Keep Us All Healthy The physical education program has as its goal the personal and group attainment of knowledge, skills, and attitudes which contrib- ute toward active, healthy, and safe behavior and fruitful lives. K-6: The primary program pro- vides for the development of basic movement and body management skills, coordination skills, self-ex- pression, and verbal communica- tion. The intermediate program provides opportunities for pupils to develop a higher degree of profi- ciency in basic movement and to synthesize these basic skills into complex situations in games, fit- ness, gymnastics, aquatics, rhythms and dance, and a variety of sports. 7-12: The secondary program pro- vides more complex basic move- ment and body management oppor- tunities than those offered in the elementary schools. The program is diversified and offers a wide range of activities. Increasingly, the em- phasis is on lifetime sports, lifetime fitness, leisure time, and adventure sports activities.
