Music ls Education It has often been said that music is the universal lan- guage of the world. Thus it continually serves as a gateway to better understanding and mutual cooperation in bridging the mistrust, confusion and fear which has existed during all ages. Through folk songs we are able to grasp not only the history but also the emotions and attitudes of otherwise long forgotten people. Patriotism and national enthusiasm has always been expressed through the medium of music. Classi- cal music of the past has made it possible for us to relive, time and time again, the beauty of an era otherwise long forgotten. Much of todays music indicates modern attitudes, interest and frustrations. Through this means of human ex- pression we have always been able to understand and to ap- preciate our neighbors, yea all fellowmen and thus to better communicate with them. Because of its significance, music is included in our school offering not only because it is an important phase of education but rather because, in its deeper sense, it is edu- cation. Therefore I must commend the yearbook staff for the selection of Music as the theme for the 1968 publication. I am sure that again GATEWAY will reflect the many sit- uations and incidents, the hopes as well as the accomplish- ments that are so important to you as students at Frontier and will thus serve as a record to be read, reread and en- ioyed in the years to come. Congratulations and the best for each of you. Vernon W. Heiman District Principal Ewwt ipwwzpal MR. VERNON W. HEIMAN
