VERNON HEIMAN - District Principal We are continually informed of the tremendous effect automation is having on employment. Modern machines directed by electronic computers are molking inroads in every phase of modern living. Our social and our moral as well as our political and economic standards are being influenced by these dynamic changes. Education must meet this challenge. The acquiring of knowledge only is no longer adequate. Training in the ever changing skills must continue throughout life. Along with this one must establish for himself a personal attitude, an interest and a desire that will continue to keep him in step with the sweeping changes now taking place in every fiber of American society. Above all, he must establish for himself a moral standard that will continue to serve as a guide both for himself and for those with whom he associates. The modern American high school is organized to meet this challenge both through its planned program and its co-curricular activities. As the 1964-65 school year draws to a close, I am sure that the Gateway will again provide a record of these opportunities and achievements-a record of our students meetiing the chal- lenge for adult life in an ever changing world.
