OUR FUTURE Americans have long been noted for their optimism. Because of it we have grown from a small insecure nation to a world power during the short span of two hundred years. Today our place as a leader among nations is being challenged. Our hope for the future is being clouded through international conspiracy and intrigue. Our optimism for the future must be built upon a' strong and firm foundation. We have that foundation in our education system which is free and equal to all because we realize that the cornerstone of success in a free society is individual effort, initiative and diligent application. The students of today must take every educational advantage afforded them. They cannot shirk hard work and long hours of study if they are to fully realize these educational opportunities. Only through utmost effort will they be equal to the responsibilities of tomorrow both local and international in scope. I am sure the Gateway for 1962 in its reflection of Frontier in all of its aspects will clearly indicate the degree to which our community has gone to make education, as its very best, available to its youth. Tomorrow, today's activities will be history. It is our sincere hope that the l962 Gateway will serve as a' record not only of our achievements but also of our unyielding optimism despite the many pitfalls of discouragement. Vernon W. Heiman District Principal
