Good design is recognized as the cornerstone of art. The school, Frontier Central in particular, is a reflection of the entire field of art. We see this exemplified not only in the physical plant, the functional arrangement of our build- ing, but also in the aims and efforts of the Board of Edu- cation, the Administration, and the Guidance personnel. Around the structure of the schedules which they authorize and supervise, we are able to build, block by block, the composition, the balance, and even the contrasts, the lights and shadows which make for sound, valid education. The teachers are the artists in this adventure of design. Day by day, they, in their classrooms, teach us to discrimin- ate between the excellent and the mediocre. Our carefully arranged bulletin boards are a center of interest in this effort toward good health and good taste, as well as a manifestation of creativity. Our extra-curricular activities furnish desirable contrast to the formal classroom work. They represent colorful relaxation after the flurry of the busy academic day. As we progress on this sea of art, we learn proper perspective and proportion. We see each activity in relation to the numerous other lines in this tre- mendously important design. Design truly permeates our school life. We are aware of it in text books, assembly programs, extra-curricular activities, as well as in our surroundings. The many-splen- dored result of this bustle and quiet, action and reflection, light and shadow, is the enriched structure of the whole individual. As day silently yields to twilight, the passerby observes the lighted windows and the penetrating rays which usher in the evening and the mood of the lighted schoolhouse. 5
