June 1961 brings to a close the first decade of Frontier's history. During this time we have seen our student population double. We have built and occupied nearly nine million dol- lars worth of new facilities. We have continually revised and expanded our curriculum so as to better meet the needs of each of our students. Why? Shortly after the second World War, statesmen saw the shadows of a new concept - the ultimate destruc- tion of liberal democracy, the govern- ment of free men. Fifteen years later the free world finds the menace even greater - the shadows darker. ln America, the bulwark against these evil forces of destruction is a competent, free thinking citizenry - a united people with high ideals, en- lightened with the understanding of facts and truths and endowed with the spirit of self sacrifice for the com- mon good to the extent that nothing will or can destroy our American Way of Life. ln these United States, education is the basic institution for assisting its citizenry in developing these ideals and securing these truths lt is the very foundation of our success. Edu- cation is not only the mastering of books but also the preparation for life. School is a laboratory where these ideals and attitudes can be developed. And thus as the i960-61 school year draws to a close, another issue of Gateway is being offered as a rec- ord of our ambitions and achieve- ments - a record of our students en- joying Our Way of Life endowed with those ideals which will insure the future of America.
