All six P.T.A. presidents The year 1953-1954 found the local P.T.A. unit nearly doubling its membership over the previous yearg 120 members were enrolled. This increase, along with additional study group activities, has quali- fied the unit for a Standard rating given by the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. This is the first rating of this kind ever attained by the Froid P.T.A. The year's activities began with the summer roundup of physical examinations for the first grade students and inoculations for all of the other school children. Fourteen examinations were given and 123 shots administered with the cost being paid by the P.T.A. The annual teachers' reception held in September was again sponsored by the P.T.A. . with a large gathering assembled to welcr 'ne the new teachers. The October meeting v--- .ghlighted by a playlet on Fire Prevention' given by the freshman English class under the dire-, 4 of Miss Osta Madsen, At this meeting, plans were made for the school carnival, where the P.T.A. again sold lunch, bringing in 5276.65 to the unit's treaslny. In November, Mr, I ames Crawford, Superintendent of the Poplar Indian Agency was one of the guest speakers, as was Mr. James Long of Poplar, author of the book, 'Land of Nakoda. They gave us a very interesting talk on Indian life and customs. A forum. 'The True Purpose of Christmas in the Home, was presented In December with Reverend Mark Emswiler and Reverend Van Vactor on the panel. Mrs. Lorraine Coe gave a lecture with interesting colored slide pictures on Montana and the great Northwest at the January meeting. We celebrated Founder 's Day at our February meeting with Mrs. E. Christoffersen as chairman of the program. Superintendent Anderson and Mr. Goodwin Bergh, Chairman of the school board, presented the March program: it was entitled, Legislation as It Affects the School. In April, Mrs. Irving Hoye gave us a review of outstanding P.T.A. magazine articles, and then the unit elected new officers for the coming year. Mr. G.N. Anderson was elected vice president and Mrs. Svend Bertelsen was elected the secretary. The officers were installed at the May meeting by Mrs. Irving Hoye, P.T.A. district president. At this meeting the past presidents of the Froid P.T.A. were honored with a special program. Richard Solga reviewed all of the accomplishments that have been made by the P.T.A. during the past. Mrs. Burton Ostby, vice president, then presented Past-President pins to Mrs. Merle Johnson, Mrs. Eugene Knick, Mrs. Irving Hoye, Mrs. Oscar Svendsen and Mrs. Goodwin Bergh. The hot lunch program, under the sponsorship of the P.T.A. was the most active of our projects. Hundreds of jars of preserves were put up and chickens and other food stuffs were donated. The P.T.A. renewed the charter of the Boy Scouts which is another unit project. Study groups brought in during the year were the local water supply, and the school curriculum.
