Class History ' We started on our journey through school, September Z, 1940 with Miss Valborg Hanson as our conductor. The group consisted of twenty members:James Anderson, Lorin Kveseth, Richard Mathison, Lester Mogen, Robert Purvis, Wilbur Tobiason, Ronald Waller, Gregory Wallander, Josef Wustner, Emma Lue Grovom, Irene Hanson, Luella Knick, Irene Larson, Norma Lien, Norma Jean Mogen, Ruth Nayes, Rosemary Nelson, Iola Westberg Meredith Wulf, and Clariss Ann Grovom. As we went on into the second grade, Miss Hanson gave her position as conductor to Miss Marguerite Cassidy. That year we lost Lorin Kveseth, Lester Mogen, Wilbur Tobiason, and Emma Lue Grovom who remained in the first grade. George Tipp, Helen Schlagel, and Della Ruland joined us. Later in the year Della Ruland, Ronald Waller, Josef Wustner decided there were too many twists in the track and transferred to other schools. Miss Phyllis Ellingson, who was our conductor for the third year took a check of her passengers and found that Jimmy Anderson, Bob Becker, Jimmy Grovom, Richard Mathison, Stanley Johnson, Jimmy Paulson, Dick Portra, Bob Purvis, Greg Wallander, Harold Grovom, Irene Hanson, Irene Larson, Norma Lien, Norma Jean Mogen, Ruth Nayes, Rosemary Nelson, Luella Knick, lola Westberg and Meredith Wulf were present. Miss Phyllis Ellingson started us on our way in the fourth year but after December first, Leona M. Miller took over. That year we found newcomers to be, Helen Schlagel, Clariss Grovom, Eugene Olsen, and George Tipp, and the ones missing were Dick Portra and Bob Purvis. Later in the year Stanley Johnson transferred to another school. At Grand Central Station we picked up Larry Lindberg and left Eugene Olsen there. Our conductor for the fifth grade was Mrs. Zora Rohrenbach. As we progressed into our sixth year of traveling, Mrs. Virginia Neilson, our conductor, had to add three more cars to the train in order to make room for our extra passengers--Clarence Hekkel, Donald Baker and Dolly Urdahl. Richard Mathison trans- ferred to Greenbush, Minnesota, at the end of the first semester. As we rolled on into the seventh grade the train left some passengers and gained one. Those we left were: Greg Wallander, Donald Baker, and Harold Grovom. Our new passenger was Hank Knick. Mrs. Florence M. Golde was our conductor. On our last bend of grade school the following were present: Jimmy Anderson, Robert Becker, Jimmie Grovom, Clarence Hekkel, Hank Knick, Laverne Krohmer, Larry Lindberg, Eugene Olsen, James Paulson, Norma Lien, Norma Jean Mogen, Ruth Nayes, Rosemary Nelson, Helen Schlagel, lola Westberg, and Meredith Wulf. We were all very proud of the diplomas that superintendent Teagerden presented to us. We changed trains for the last time, as we rolled along the final stretch toward our goal. Taking roll we found the following were on board, Jimmy Anderson, Clariss Grovom, Jimmy Grovom, lrene Hanson, Clarence Hekkel, Luella Knick, Hank Knick, Merle Krogedal, Laverne Krohmer, Irene Larson, Norma Lien, Larury Lindberg, Norma Jean Mogen, Ruth Nayes, Rosemary Nelson, Eugene Olsen, Helen Schlagel, George Tipp, lola Westberg, Meredith Wulf, Bob Becker, and James Paulson. Our Freshman year was the peak of attendance with twenty-two members in our class. Because our class was so large, we decided to elect officers. They were as follows: President-Eugene Olson, Vice-President-lola Westberg, Secretary-Jimmy Grovom, Treasurer Clarence Hekkel. Miss Osta Madsen was our class Adviser. Luella Knick was selected librarian from our class for her high school years. Some of the students did not wish to continue with us, so they stepped off the train, They were, Hank Knick, James Paulson, Merle Krogedal and Bob Becker. Because we were the so-called green freshies, the Sophomores initiated us as official members of the high school student body. As Freshmen, we gave the one-act play. The Pampered Darling. Meredith Wulf was the queen candidate and Jim Grovom was the king candidate from our class for the carnival, Larry Lindberg sang a solo at Plentywood and got a rating of three, and at Culbertson he got an excellent rating. He went to the track meet at Fairview and brought back four ribbons. Clariss Grovom, Clarence Hekkel and Larry Lindberg had acting parts in the play, Susie, the Siren, while we were Freshmen.

We jogged into our Sophomore year determined to give the Freshmen the same treatment we had received the previous year. We sweated over costumes and torturous ideas to put the freshies through. We tried to get original ideas and some of them really were. This year one of our classmates, Ruth Nayes, passed away on September 18, 1949. Irene Larson moved to Vancouver, Washington: LuAnn Mittman transferred here from Belgrade on December ZZ. Bob Becker rejoined the class this year. As -Sophomores, we elected officers again and the results were as follows: President- Eugene Olsengvice- President-Jim Grovomgand Secretary-Treasurer, Clarence Hekkel. - Mr. Robert Stock was our class adviser this year. Rosemary Nelson was the queen candidate from our class and Larry Lindberg was the king of the carnival this year. Helen Schlagel participated in a de- clamation contest at Culbertson and got a rating of good, she also went to Glendive and got a third rating. . This year Clariss Grovom became a cheerleader for the pep club. Larry Lindberg sang solos at Glasgow and Culbertson and got rating of first and superior, respectively. Iola Westberg gor an excellent rating as piano accompanist at Glasgow when she accompanied Larry. Larry Lindberg had an acting part in the play, Seventeenth Summer and Rosemary Nelson had a part in the play, Tiger House. Larry Lindberg brought three ribbons back from the track meet at Fairview. Getting closer to our destination we were wishing it would soon be over. We were Juniors now and suddenly realized that one more year would bring us to our goal of graduating Seniors. This year we found new passengers to beg Greg Wallander, Irene Larson and Allegra QDollyj Naegeli, who came from Browning High School. We lost LuAnn Mittman, who went to Poplar to school. About the middle of the year Norma Lien left us. ln our Junior year our officers were: President-Jim Grovom, Vice-President-Eugene Olsen, and Secretary Treasurer, Iola Westberg. Our class Adviser was Miss Osta Madsen. Iola Westberg was the queen of the carnival and Jim Grovom was the king candidate from our class. We honored the Seniors at a prom and banquet in the spring. Q-The theme for our prom was Apple Blossom Time. Our class play was a comedy, Cheaper By The Dozen. Norma Jean Mogen was president of F. H.A. this year. Jim Grovom was a representative to Boys' State at Dillon, Montana. Clariss Grovom was cheerleader again for the second consecutive year. Larry Lindberg and Jim Grovom sang solos at Wolf Point and got a rating of two and three respectively. Iola Westberg, their accompanist, got an excellent rating. Eugene Olsen, Greg Wallander, Clarence Hekkel, and Larry Lindberg had acting parts in the play, The Green Scarab. We all were a part of the group who gave the choral reading, The Bells, at Culbertson. Jimmy Anderson had the misfortune of hurting his arm while hunting in the fall, and was hospitalized for several weeks, but was able to return and continue his Junior year. Tournament band participants were Rosemary Nelson, Luella Knick, and Norma Jean Mogen. Coming in on the home stretch we were sorry to find Meredith Wulf, Irene Hanson, Luella Knick, Rosemary Nelson and Dolly Naegeli, had turned in their tickets to the depot agent and wouldn't be able to reach the final destination of graduation of the 5Z class. The Seniors, realizing this was our last lap took roll and found the following aboard: Jimmy Anderson, Bob Becker, Jimmy Grovom, Clariss Grovom, Eugene Olsen, Helen Schlagel, Larry Lindberg, Norma Jean Mogen, Larry Lodmell, transfer from West Phoenix High School, Arizona, to Froid, Laverne Krohmer, George Tipp, Greg Wallander, Iola Westberg, and Clarence Hekkel. The class officers were: President-Greg Wallander, Vice-President Eugene Olsen, and Secretary-Treasurer, Iola Westberg. Our class Adviser was Mrs. Muriel Reuter. V Those participating in the band of the four years were: Jimmy Grovom, Eugene Olsen, Norma Jean Mogen, Larry Lodmell, George Tipp, Iola Westberg and Clarence I-lekkel. Clariss Grovom and Norma Jean Mogen were the queen candidates for the 5Z F. H. S. carnival.
