Maxson. During his four years with us, Mr. Maxson has done a great deal in preparing many for the future. Through all our many and greatly enjoy- able associations with him, he has worked to build character and citizenship, and to instill in us ide- als of fair play and sportsmanship. Mr. Maxson has earned the respect of all not only through his excellent classroom instruc- tion, and his advisory capacities, but also through the inspiration of his own personal example. For all these things and more, we wish to thank you, Mr. Maxson and wish you all the luck you deserve. 2 John P. C. S. track and field team. Led by Seniors Denzel Richmond, Sam Strahan, and Ron Jordan, the team established three school records. New standards were set in the mile medley relay. School records were tied in the high hurdles and the 880 yard run. The highlight of the season was the third place finish in the county meet. Six boys represented F. C. S. in the section I meet, with the two mile relay team (Denzel Richmond, Dale Brown, Larry Buddinger, and Rich Foster) and Dave Geffers an individual winner. For the first time girls were allowed to participate in boys’ meets. Karen Jordan was a member of the record setting mile medley relay team. Congratulations. fSj ROW ONE: Larry Buddinger, Mark Rumsey, Denzel Richmond, Mark Bennett, Buddy Miles. ROW TWO: Suzy Jordan, Kathy Ward, Karen Jordan, Sam Strahan. ROW THREE: Dale Brown, Burt Youngs. The high flying EAGLES” compiled an overall record of 13 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. This performance resulted in a sectional championship. The pitchmen scored 64 goals and limited the opposition to just 21. The first line defense led by Leonard Hodge and Jim Zacher had but only 10 goals scored on them the entire season. Jim McCarthy led the team in scoring by hitting the nets for 30 goals and 4 assists. Dave Geffers accounted for 10 goals and 25 assists, and is considered an excellent college prospect. Jerry Garmong (Johnny on the spot) came up with several key goals and also had 15 assists. Hustle and determination were the trade mark of this year's fine team, and Coach Karl will certainly miss his graduating seniors. With several fine young players returning for next sea- son, Coach Karl is very optimistic about next year’s team when he remarked ... We could very well win the title in 72 ... Led by seniors Rick Foster and Dale Brown, the team compiled a rec- ord of 0 and 7. The season highlight was Rick Foster's consistent per- formances, finishing not worse than third in any meet. Other squad members included Larry Budinger, Carl Miller, and Randy Shelley. DALE BROWN RICK FOSTER 38 RANDY SHELLEY CARL MILLER Varsity Basketball DEAN CARNEY DAVE GEFFERS LEONARD HODGE J.V. Its .most important project was selling the miracle cleaning agent Rex. With the help of the cheer- leaders, the club managed to ac- quire $300.00 from the project. The money along with the profit from the Christmas tournament, which was $520.00, will pay for cheerleader’s uniforms, and Var- sity Club jackets. ANN STOCKMAN Advisor: NANCY McDERMOTT KARIN McDERMOTT CINDY BURDICK During the first semester of this school year, the National Honor Society instituted a student assistant program, based on teacher's recommendations. High school students were placed, mainly working one to one with elementary students who needed this kind of help. Also early in the year, the membership applied for, and received permission to be allowed to do as they pleased during their free periods. The National Honor Society is a senior group this year, but has worked well and hard. It is look- ing forward to the February induction to increase its membership and, therefore, its impact on Friend- ship Central. The 1972 Student Council of Friendship Central, with Jerry Gar- mong's presidential leadership as- sisted by Bruce Strahan (Vice Pres.), Kathy Scutt (Sec.), and Carl Mil- ler (Treas.), is sailing along on steady ground. By obtaining prof- it from the pop machine and a few movies, they have greatly increased the sum of their treasury. With such profit they contributed $50.00 towards a fund in memory of Mar- tin Luther King. The council's eighteen self-motivated Represen- tatives have acceptably responded to the council's structure change and Redesign involvement. 49 ADVISOR: Carol Stout. The imagination and crea- tivity put into compiling some of the most memorable occasions of the past year, has certainly been appreciated. For the first time, the Panorama received no financial help from the board of education. Finding themselves entirely self- supporting, the staff turned to the local merchants of Friendship. The staff would like to take this time to thank the local mer- chants for making the yearbook possible. A special thanks also goes to Mr. Lattimer, the Panorama advisor. His help, patience, and hard work has provided the staff with the incentive needed to produce the book. si Prom-71 ROW ONE: Gilbert Stearns, Joseph Kelly, Sam Stra- han, Diane Davis, Cheryl Stearns, Pamela Bailey.
