Text from Pages 1 - 64 of the 1954 volume:

3 orewor j Four years have passed since the members of the Class of 1954 first entered Friendship High School and made it a second home. Our brief residence here is ended now, however, and each of us, in his own way, must answer to the beckonings of the great adventure of adult living. It is probable that in this world of speed and disdained distance that we shall roam far afield. Certainly, there will be times when the road is lonely, when our thoughts will turn to high school days. Here, thenisthe “Panorama”. We have compiled it carefully so that it may serve well when the voice of memory whispers, “Come home”. . . Mar- lene was responsible for most of the typing. Her help was invaluable. We have been entrusted with the job of creating your yearbook, and so we have tried to the best of our abilities to put together a bookthat would be a record of our school year, and that would be a treasure of memories when read many years from now. They deserve a lot of credit for the time and effort they have put into each issue. Staying after school until dark, writing copy, cutting stencils and running off material on the mimeograph, are just a few of the things that go into the SPY. The staff has striven to interpret our school accurately and fairly. Their aim is above petty gossip and cynic- ism. An undertaking such as this requires the help and guidance of an interested person. Mrs. Betty Jane Cor- nelius has been such a person. tdvw''vn' ' j0W s staUW ;es. In our high school, as in any other, we need an agency to act for the entire student body. This agency is the Student Council. It has four broad aims. First, to solve the various problems falling in its realm; second, to resolve differences; third, to create interest; and fourth, to coordinate the functions and efforts of the classes and student government bodies. The Council has been busy this year. It has taken action on some matters and has discussed many more. Several of them are: an honor study hall, buying a pop corn machine to be leased to the classes earning money, a representative from the F.F.A. and the F.H.A. on the Council, revising the method of choosing the Athletic and Assem- bly Committees, and revising the Accumulative Letter Award. The Student Council feels strongly the need of carrying on in the fine tradition of past years, but, largely this success is only in proportion to the interest and willingness of the student body to take an active part in its program and assume the responsibilities of self- government and citizenship.
