This will be the Fine Arts Building of Friends University - the future quarters of the music, art, speech, and drama de- partments. According to the architects, the build- ing will be in the shape of an H, with the music department occupying two of the legs , the art, speech, and drama departments another, and the fourth leg will consist of a reception room, a library, and a listening room. In the center of the H will be a 450-seat auditorium for concerts, re- citals, and dramatic productions. PAUL R. QM DEDICATION Friendliness is the word that describes the character of Mr. Alfred P. Smith. Mr. Smith gradu- ated from Plainview, Nebraska High School in l92O. He received his A.B. degree from Nebraska Central College in l925. ln 1957, he received his Master of Education degree from the University of Wichita. Mr.Smith served as pastor of Friends churches in Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma between i925 and 1944. From 19411 to l95l, he served as a Field and Church Representative for Friends University. ln 1951, he became the head of the Psychology Department of Friends University and has been serving in this capacity since that time. Alfred P. Smith married Maude Newlon. They have two boys, Norval and Gordon. ln 'l95O, Nor- val graduated from Friends University. He is now serving as a minister of the First Friends Church in Marshalltown, lowa. He married Nedra Andree, who graduated in i949 from Friends University. They have two boys aged six and nine. Gordon, who graduated from F.U. in l956, is married to Joan Clark. Joan is a i958 graduate of F.U. They have a three year old child. Gordon and Joan re- side in Bucklin, Kansas, where he is a public school music teacher. Friendliness, scholarship, and dedication to his students and to Friends University are the outstanding characteristics of Alfred P. Smith. H6 is respected not only by the faculty, but also by the students. His wonderful sense of humor not only enlivens his classes but also his conversa- tions with students. These qualities of friendli- ness, scholarship, dedication, and a wonderful sense of humor make Mr. Alfred P. Smith worthy of the i964 Talisman dedication. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred P Smith

Davis Administration Building Long a landmark of Wichita, Davis Ad- ministration building was originally the main building of Garfield University. When the college became Friends University, the big, beautiful building was named Da- vis Administration in honor of James and Anna Davis who purchased the property and presented it to the Kansas Yearly Meeting of Friends.
