F S.S. RECORD JUNE 13, 1954 If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in Common hours. -WALT WHITMAN As you, the members of the Class of 1957, look to the future, each desires to attain a full measure of real success in the years to come. Recently a distinguished gentleman told a large group of young students that there would be only two or three in his audience who would ever know success because no more than these would be expected to contribute to mankind something comparable to a cure for an incurable disease or the discovery of a new use for electricity. All the others would live unin- teresting, humdrum and ordinary lives and, consequently, would have to be counted failures. VVhat nonsense! There may be none in this Class who will achieve such suc- cessf, but all of you can gain a full and lasting measure of achievement in the years upon which you now enter- abilities lived up to, a job which brings real satisfaction, membership in a happy family, contribution to the en- richment of all with Whom you come in contact, citizen- ship in a wholesome and peaceful world, a full life well lived. These certainly are important ingredients of a successful life because these a1'e the ingredients of a re- warding life. If your days at Friends, Select have helped to develop such dreams deep within each of you, then I feel our job has been well done and your lessons have been well learned. 1711.
