FOOTBALL SUMMARY Seventeen energettc football players reported to Coach Don Haber nan at the begtnntng of the school year to start tram ng for the 1947 stx man foot ball season A season whtch saw the Bulldogs go undefeated and become the Traxlway Conference champs Wtth 1n1ur1es stdeltntng four of the starttng l1ne up durmg the season Coach Habermans substttutes took the load upon thetr shoulders and con ttnued the wtnntng streak wtth elght w1ns and no losses The end of the season ended the second year of stx man football at Frtend 1-llgh School Etght of the players were sentors and wrll not be back next yea The Bulldogs were rated seventh tn the state Raymond Glfford was named on the all state stx man football team Harold Barney and Gifford were selected by the conference coaches for the all conference team Boy Horne was named on the second team V1rg11 Nelsen and Bay Svehla re cetved honorable 'nent1on The followtng 1s a summary of the games Sept 19 ln the seasons opener the Bulldogs knocked off the Falrmont Ttgers 32 12 on the home fteld Th1s was a conference game Sept 26 The team Journeyed to Mtlford to play a conference game under the ltghts After tratltng 21 18 at the half the Bulldogs came back the second half to defeat the Eagles 46 21 home a 2812 vtctory The Bulldogs led 210 at the half Bay Svehla was 1nJured 1n the fourth quarter and lost to the team for the rest of the season Ot 10 ln another away from home game the Bulldogs ran w11d agalnst Exeter wtnntng 537 Raymond Glfford ran the openmg lctckoff 65 yards for the ftrst touchdown ln a sensattonal punt he booted the plgskrn from h1s own end zone to the Eagle s goal 11ne Oct 17 The Beaver Crosstng Beavers were set back 25 6 ID a home game Everett Stewart was lnyured and lost to the team for the rest of the season Oct 31 ln a non conference game the Bulldogs defeated an unbeaten Shelby team 14 0 Gene Rohlg and Leonard Wallace suffered 1nJur1es wnlch sldelmed them the rest of the season Nov 7 Frlend tnvaded Carleton to wtn ct 31 24 vtctory from the Warrtors In a thrrllrng game Nov 14 The Bulldogs won thts game 7 U from the Western lndlans tn a down pour of ram to become the conf rence champlons The lon Frlend score was scored ln the f1rst quarter after Harold Barney blocked a Western punt and recovered the ball on the lndtan s 27 yard l1ne Ctfford scooted around left end for the tally 25 r - 1 i .
