Their next game was played at Orcas, Orcas was a much better ball club than the Wolverines had expected to run up against. They were pushed all the way but they pulled away in the last quarter and walked off the floor with a 1:7 to 38 victory. ' A week later the Orcas Vikings arrived at the Wolverine's home court to play the second game of their series, the chips were dovm for Orcas because if they didn't win this game they would not get a chance to play the eighth place team, which would give them a crack at the District B Tournament. Orcas again started out strong as they were right behind the Wolverines at the end of the first quarter, the score rested at ll to 8 at that time. The Wolverines started pulling away continually thereafter. They led at half time 25 to 17, at the third quarter mark they led 36 to 25 ,and they finished the game well on top Sh to 33. The following week the LaConnor Braves were downed by the fast Wolverine squad. The Wolverines got off to an early lead of 15 to lg, but by the time the first half came to a close, the Braves had narrowed the lead to 26-21. In the third quarter the Braves were again on the warpath and with good shooting fiunished by Ellis and Haloy, they chopped the lead down to three points as the Wolverines were on the long end of a 31 to 28 count. In the final quarter the Wolverines were pressed hard and the count was tied on several occasions and in the last three minutes the Wolverines pulled ahead to win ho to 35. Then came the biggest upset of the year. The highly tauted Duke of Cannoughtsjarrived here on February the 114 with a win and loss record of 18 winsfand 3 losses. Before the night was over it was to be their fourth loss and their first loss to a B school. The game started out very much as the Dukes had expected, they ran up an early 8 to O score, but before lorg tht Wolverines had hit the net for nine points and the score read Friday Harbor 9, the Duke of Cannoughts 12. The Cannoughts increased their lead at half time as they picked up an eight point advantage to lead 2? to 19. ,The Wol- verines came out in the second half content with just giving the Cannoughts a good ball game, but before they knew it they were only behind 27-25. As the third quarter ended they trailed the Dukes 30 to 28. As the fourth quarter started the Wolverines immediately got down to' business and tied the ball game up and next time they got their hands on the ball they went ahead. They never lost that lead as they combined a solid defense and a ball con- trol offense to upset the cannougm-,S 140-35. The entire squad played good ball the entire game. Then came the game that really counted and the Wolverines didn't quite prove up to the occasion as they played probably their poorest ball game of the year, as they lost the play off game Sh-hO to a fired up Twin. Cities squad. The Friday Harbor basketball team was C0mprised mainly of seniors this year and their loss will be felt very keenly :Ln the season to come. The graduating seniors are Bill Erickson, forward, Jim Erickson, guard, Terry Jackson,- guard and forward, Jerry Waner, center, Jack Ringler, forwardg and Santos Pantoja, forward and guard. Jerry Waner, Bill Erickson, Jim Erickson.
