Zgcwlfefgaf The Friday Harbor Wolverines, under the able guidance of Coach Warren Hill, started their season off with a bang when they tripped a much larger Coupville team by the score of h? to hl. Jim Erickson hit for 22 points that night and proved to be the margin of difference between the teams. Skykomish came to Friday Harbor the next night a d squeezed by the Wol- verines by the narrow margin of two points, 31-29. Little did they suspect that this would touch off a six game losing streak. The following week end they traveled to play O'Dea of Seattle and were thoroughly trounced 69 to 39. The next day they were again beaten, this time by Darrington, They were then beaten by Concrete 32 to h73 Lake Stevens ho to 28 and thenby Coupville 35 to 3b. ' - After they had lost these six games in a row they were very downhearted and they set about to remedy the situation. Coach Hill moved Bill Erickson, S'7W, to forward from guard, mnved Jim Capron,6', from center to forward, moved Jerry Waner, 5'lOU, from forward to center, Terry Jackson, S'lON, was alternated between forward and guard instead of just playing forward, Santos Pantoja, 5'7U, and Tomm Thompson S'6', were used regularly. Jim Erickson, S'7' maintained his position as guard. The rehibilitation must have worked for even though the Wolverines were without the services of two of their starting five, Jim Capron and Terry Jackson, they ran roughshod over Lakeside High School of Seattle. The ball- game was close during the first half, but the Wolverines pulled away inthe second half to win 59-L2. They traveled to Oak Harbor the following night and still without the services of Capron and Jackson gave the league leading Oak Harbor team a run for their money. At the end of the first quarter Oak Harbor led 21 to 19. At the half the Wolverines tied it up at 29 to 29. At the end of the third quarter the Wolverines trailed Oak Harbor h9-M6. As the tallest boy on the floor was Jerry Waner, S'lO', Pat McGreevy had little or no trouble at all in 'racking up R9 points. Friday Harbor played a very good ball game but in the last quarter McGreevy's six foot four frame was too much for them. Oak Harbor won the game-73 to 55. The following week Langley entertained the Wolverines in their spacious gym. It was a close hard fought contest with the Wolverines coming out on the long end of the score M2 to 32. The next game was a game that the Wolverines had been dreading and yet they were hoping for this game. They wanted to prove whether they had a good ball club or whether they were the same type of a club 'when they had played O'Dea previouslyw The Wolverines found their answer early in the first quarter as they knotted the score at ll to ll. The second quarter saw the Wolverines pull ahead by four points 19 to 15. The third quarter score ended with the Wolverines holding on to a bare one point margin. The score was then Friday Harbor 25 and O'Dea 2h. The fourth quarter the O'Dea team was rested by the reserves and then came back in refreshed and went on to earn a well fought victory, 37 to 29. The Wolverines had their poorest shooting average in quite a few games as they only hit 26.h1 of their shots. O'Dea hit 33.31 of their shots and there lie the difference between those two ball clubs that night.
