November 3O...Left Mbscow after a futile search for the 'Gillahooper'. I boarded the Emily Jane at London I attended the opening for the first time. The star was publicized as being Sonia star gracefully skated out on one of my fellow graduates in the Black Sea and set sail for England. In of -the Ice Follies, which had come to Europe of the follies was a girl named 'Marlo', who Henies's rival. As the attractive red headed the ice, I recognized her as Marlene Johnson, '5l. January 9...Discouraged by my vain search and lonesome for my friends back in the States, I started home. Whom I reached New York, I yielded to my weakness for exclusive women's shops and stopped at one on Fifth Avenue. Evidently they were having a sale, but it was so crowded I could not get near the counter to see what everyone was buying. I asked the sales lady who said they were selling the new 'Gallanger Girdle'. This girdle, she continued, was the result of ten years experimentation by a man named Henry Gallanger, and was becoming more and more popular everyday. Of all the things I had learned about my former class-mates, this surprised me most. February 2l...Decided to take the train home. While looking for some- thing ,to read, on the trip, I noticed a book entitled, 'ly Dad Was Town larshall', by Eunice Kru diack. I picked up the bggk to ,ee if this gouid possibly have been written by the former Harborite, Eu ice Hammond, and strange as it may seem it was., I immediately bought the book and laughed continually while reading the hu crous stor . February 22...Stopped in Chicago to vfh1t'my classmate, Marilyn King, with whom I have been in contact. She is the president of the new 'Zing King Company',.which is experimenting in the use of a new type of noodle for chop suey. She was placing some noodles in test tube, when she noticed a skeleton of a bug in it. I examined it closely and found it was a dicarded skin of a two-headed, left handed, 'Gillahocper'. I asked Marilyn is she had ever seen a fCillahooper' in Chicago, but she said she hadnft. Being very discouraged and down hearted after finding my search absoluteli worthless, I left Chicago and headed home. larch 7...Arrived in Seattle in time to see the final games of the State 'B' tourmam nt. It just so happened that Friday Harbor played the other winner from the same district, Granite Falls, in the final game to see who would place first in the state. CStars on Friday Harbor's basket- ball team,.Perry Sandwith, Craig Scribner, and Robbie Browne, put on a bea- utiful exhibition of basketball by beating Granite Falls 59-571 Dave Phifer has sure done a marvelous job of coaching these boys since ed five years ago. They have won the district championship four he start- years and placed high in state for three years. This was the first time they'had wan the state championship however, and the eight hundred spectators who atten- ded from Friday Harbor were wild with excitement. lhen I returned to my hotel room I turned on the radio. The program I was listening to was interrupted to bring a special broadcast to the listeners. 'Friday Harbor woman gives birth to sextuplets. Irs. Gwen Sohmola is doing fine after giving birth to five boys and one girl about fifteen minutes ago. All of the babies weighed at least three pounds at birth. This is the first authentic record of sextuplets in medical history. I will have more to report later'. Instantly I knew that this was my old classmate Gwen'lorkman, whose name would now be known all over the world. ' larch l9...Took the beautiful trip from Seattle to Waldron Island by water, where I popular resort. Chevalier, Jr. 4 we,talked over planned to spend several weeks at the 'Isle of Leisure', a When'I reached the island, I found the proprietor, ldlllam greeting the new arrivals. 0.41 thousand dollars on the radio program Rob'the Piggy Bank , and used the money to build this resort. He told me there are at least five hundred guests at the resort every day and he has had many famous people vacation- ing'there, including Arthur Godfrey, Joe Louis, the King of Sweden, and Lana Turner, While we were talking, he told me the new Friday Harbor High School had just been completed and I later learned that he had contributed 365,000 in order that it would be the most modern school in the world. June 1...After a year of traveling I am back home in Friday Harbor, and although I enjoyed seeing my old friends, I still had not found a nGil- lahoopern. While I was looking through the Biology room of the new high gchool, my search came to an end, for in the jar with Harlow , I saw the corpse of a Gillahooper . Harlow , it will be remembered, was the little goldfish who was murdered by the Chemistry class of 1949, and now lies pickled in a jar. My world wide search had ended about two miles from my home! 1 v v .. X x C f CH ::k 3 I T - .E E I -k-- ,F Q -2 Q .
