POP QC? Dear Diary, The date is June 1, 1965. I have just begun my search for a two-head- ed, left handed 'G1llahooper', a very rare insect. I was bitten by one on graduation night in 1951 and ever since have been seeking the 0PP01'tWlilFy to bite one back! I have just set sail from the thriving sea-port, False iBay, for the Hawaiian Islands on the Emily Jane, a popular yacht. June l2...le arrived in the Hawaiian Islands and the next day I began my search for the bug. Hacking my way through the dense jungle, I arrived at a native village, and upon inquiring my'whereabouts, I was informed in their native tongue, 'Bala polooka-ooka' that I was in the province of Soh- lagoo'. The chief of this small village I discovered, was none other than my classmate, Charlie Schlag, who was now married to a hula dancer. Find- ing my search for the 'Gillahooper' in vain, I sailed westward to Paducah Egypt, for it was reported the insect had been seen in this vicinity. August l3...Anchoring the Emily Jane at the head of the Nile I set off across the desert to Paducha. In the dimly lighted lounge of the 'Dew Drop Inn', I heard the old familiar notes of 'Show Me The Way to Go Home',1rh11, behind me someone was softly humming the tune. Glancing around I saw a bearded, distinguished-looking gentleman, and upon observing him more closely, I recognized him as one of the old group, Don Lowe. At the same time he must have recognized me, for he came over to my table and we talked over old times. Bb told me he'was here investigating the disappearance of the mummy of Queen Osel-a-man-deb, who was mistakenly shipped back to Egypt after our class play. I mentioned to Don how strange it was the piano player happened to be playing one of our favorite songs, and he told me the melancholy pianist was Gary Ullerick, who had come to Egypt in hopes of forgetting his loved one, Toddy Duffy. The story goes that on the day be- fore their marriage, Toddy eloped with her former suitor, Jim Nash, leaving Gary heartbroken and unconsolable. I told Don of my search for the 'Gill- ahooper', and he informed me that he had heard of one being seen in Hbscow, theypresent home of Tcddy and Jim. ' August 25...Set sail this morning for Russia. Hitting some bad weath- er we got a little off our course and landed on the island of Sicily. As long as I was here I decided to make a tour of the island. A big engineer- ing project was just being started on the island, the building of an under- water tunnel to Italy. I heard rumors while in the U. S. that a WDNHB was to be chief engineer of the project, but was utterly amazed to find Marilyn Gresli was the woman. I stopped at her office and asked to see her but her secretary-said an appointment must be made at least a month in ad- vance. The secretary told me that after Marilyn had completed the tunnel she was givin up her'brilliantpareer to return home and marry a highschool Sweetheart. Terry Jacksonl August 28...s-gap-ted again for Russia . Took a plane to Moscow after leaving the yacht at the Black Sea. Found Jim Nash operating a profitable hamburger stand with his wife and seven children. I knew it was his at first sight for a large neon sign readfin both English and Russianl 'Jim and Toddy's Hamburger Shack--Come on in and have a Snackl' Jim todd me that he had come to Moscow at the request of Joe Stalin who was crazy about hamburgers, and wished to introduce them to his people. Two months after Jim's hamburger stand opened, the U.S. and Russia signed a permanent peace pact. Jim also told me that Admiral Hugh Roberts was one of the signers of this treaty. Hugh was very successful in the Navy, raising to the rank of admiral in three years. While glancing at a U.S. paper Jim had, I read where Hugh was dating Margaret Tru an. Oh well, Hugh always did like older women.
