Science students Iearned to conduct experiments. SCIENCE Upper: Laboratory work put theory into practice. Lower: Now, what we want to do today , . . . The science department offered a com- plete and well-rounded program. Biology delved into the structure of plant and ani- mal life: their similarities, variations, and relationships. ln the weekly laboratory period various lower forms of life were dissected and reported upon. Chemistry studied a varied field from properties and uses of matter under inorganic chemistry to carbon compounds and radicals. Week- ly laboratory periods were used to prove the properties and sources of elements. Physics went into greater detail on such topics as nuclear physics, electricity, and heat, plus the accompanying problem solv- ing. Laboratory periods were used to prove the laws and theories of physics. Ninth grade science was divided into two groups, earth science and general science. The seventh and eighth grades had science a half year. The science courses in the iunior high school provided a general background so that a variety of interests were founded.

Driving required practical experience as well as classroom study. DOROTHY HUSBAND Junior High School English, Social Studies Brockport Normal School, B.Ed., Geneseo State Teachers College, Syracuse University, Fre- donia State Teachers College. HELEN DONALDSON High School English A.B., Allegheny College, Geneseo Normal School. English in the junior high school, taught by Mrs. Husband and Mr. Patterson, included the study of grammar, spelling, composition and the reading of some litera- ture. lnstructed by Miss Wallace and Mrs. Nobbs, the ninth grade studied grammar, vocabulary, literature and other fundamen- tals of the English language. With Mrs Donaldson as instructor, the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades continued their study of the essentials of English. Selections of world literature were read by the tenth grade, American literature and English lit- erature were studied in the eleventh and twelfth grades respectively. DRIVER EDUCATION Mr. Randall's classes were instructed in the essentials and practices of good driving. Through classroom lectures and road practice, it was the aim of driver education to provide better drivers behind the steering wheels of our nation. DOUGLAS RANDALL Driver Education B.
