SOCIAL TUDIE DEPARTME T Learning of yesterday for tomorrow. Social studies was a required sub- ject for all students. The seventh grade concentrated on New York State history, from the time of the Iroquois Federation to the present day. American history from early exploration to the effects of a two party system of government was studied in the eighth grade, and the ninth grade devoted time to varied sub- topics, including topography, economics, JOHN A. World history for the tenth grade covered civilization from the Stone Age to World War ll. Studying American history in detail, the eleventh and twelfth grades began to find the solution to age-old dilemmas applying to modern times. Social stud- ies are supplemented by newspaper and magazine articles, excerpts from books, film strips and current events papers.

MATHEM TICS Miss Johnson was instructor for all senior high mathematics courses offered this year. Math 9, Math IO, intermediate algebra, trigonometry, and advanced algebra were offered to those students wishing to further their education in mathematics. With Mr. Woodard as instructor, the seventh grades were taught more about the fundamentals of mathematics, while the eighth grades were intro- duced to algebra and prepared for their first math- ematics Regents. Students learned from each other. BUSINESS Business courses were offered students in grades nine through twelve by Mrs. Dewing. Subjects taught included: general business for freshmen and sophomores, typing and Shorthand I for sophomores, business practice only for seniors who have had typing and one .f 4,,,..
