All employees are hired by Safs- trom through the association of- fice. The budgets for student activ- ities are approved by Safstrom and the Board of Directors. Adele Hume is the financial secre- tary of the Fresno State College Asso- ciation. She serves as bookkeeper for the association and handles all routine business and secretarial duties con- nected With it. Miss Hume is a grad- uate of Fresno State, class of '44, and has served as financial secretary since. Peggy Kohlmann is the secretary to the general manager of the Fresno State College Association. Miss Kohl- mann, a former student of the college, takes dictation, does typing, and gen- eral office Work for the association. Mrs. Marjorie Zelhart serves as alum- ni membership secretary, taking care of the correspondence and routine sec- retarial duties of the Fresno State Col- lege Alumni Association. Since grad- uating from Fresno State in 1933, Mrs. Zelhart has served in the Registrars Office and the Employment and Place- ment Offices. Ed Piston, director of public relations for the association, is a recent graduate of the school. I-le handles all publicity for activities sponsored by the associa- tion such as Playhouse performances, music performances, a n d athletic events. 50045 fore ana! Cakferia Mrs. Gertrude Burke, manager of the cafeteria and coffee shop for Fresno State, has charge of the prepaartion and serving of noon and, since the be- ginning of the spring semester, evening meals in they cafeteria. She also man- ages the coffee shop during the day. She has been manager since 1943. Robert K. Winzler, assistant general manager of the association, has charge of the Fresno State College bookstore, and handles the sale of tickets for asso- ciation athletic events, as Well as man- aging concessions at the stadium. A graduate of Fresno tSate in '43, Winz- ler took over his position this year. Assistant Manager of the bookstore, Carolyn Beckley also acts as business manager of The Collegian.

Thomas, president ot the college. The dean of Women or the dean of men, acting with the president of the college, handles matters ot discipline. 1 'tit ug! Elton M. Baker, head of the chemistry depart- ment, has been associated with Fresno State since l942. He received his B.S. from North- western State College, his M.S. from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, and his Ph.D. from Oregon State College. He has done graduate work at both Ohio State University and Phillips University. Dr. Arthur C. Berdahl, head of music depart- ment, has been affiliatedl with the Fresno State College since 1932. He received his A.B. degree at Augustana College, his A.M. at State Uni- versity of Iowa, and his Ph.D. at State Univer- sity of Iowa. Alexandra Bradshaw, head of the Art De- partment at Fresno State College, is a graduate of Stanford University, where she received her A.B. degree. She has studied at' the Depart- ment of Fine Arts, Los Angeles Normalg Los Angeles Art Students League, Columbia Uni- versity, Academie of M. Andre ,L'hote, Paris, with Herr 'Hoffman of Munichg and with the Pasadena Art Colony. She has been a summer session instructor at the University of Southern California, and instructor at Fresno State since l9l7. elaarfmenf .itleacli A. E. Culbertson is head of the agriculture and biology department at Fresno State Col- lege. A graduate of Emporia College, he re- ceived his A.B. from Yale University and his master's degree from Kansas University in l9l5. He has been at Fresno State since. l925. Dr. Guy B. Colburn, head of the department of foreign languages at Fresno State College, is a graduate of Brown University, where he received his master's degree. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and has been a graduate student at Rome, Paris, Ma- drid, Harvard University, and Princeton Uni- versity. He has been-on the faculty of Grin- nell College, Swarthmore College, University of Missouri, Williams College, and Princeton University. He has been at Fresno State since Afton Yeates Eliason, who has been at Fres- no State since 1935, is head of the department of physics. He received both his B.S. and AM. from the Utah State Agricultural College, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, where he was also engaged in research work for two years.
