Securing furnishings for the new student Union building, and a new stadium addition have been the biggest accomplishments this year of the Board of Direc- tors, Association financial administrative group. General duties of the Board include the collection and budgeting of all Asso- ciation dues, management of the cafeteria and book store, and the handling of all monies connected with the college that do not by law go through the regular college office. Upon the recommendation of General Manager Arthur Safstrom, the Board fixes all Association salaries and appoints all assistant managers and other employees. Faculty members appointed by President Frank W. Thomas to serve on the Board this year include Emory Batcliffe, chairman, Mary Bell Smith, Dr. Karl Falk, and Mrs. Ella Odorfer. Students Who served on the Board were Ed Piston, l-'loyd Hyde, Glenn- Gooder, Dorothy Bees, lack Hansen, and Betty Olson.

GOODER With the war complicating student activi- ties by causing a heavy drop in enrollment and a curtailment in budget expenses, mem- bers of the Fresno State College student body forgedahead this year to overcome all the drawbacks incurred by the War. Guided by President Glenn Gooder, the student body instituted Hello Week, which became an annual fall event to help new and old students to become acquainted. With the advent of the War, students re- vised their plans, formed a Student Defense Council headed by Blue Key President Bruce Morris, and set about earning money to pur- chase Defense Bonds in cooperation With the War effort along with the collection of War essentials. In May Glenn Gooder and president-elect Floyd Hyde attended the Pacific Student Presidents' Association Convention in Sun Valley, Idaho. Much discussed there Were means by which to earn money for national defense. Put into effect here were corsage- less dances and a number of ideas to carry out the mode, fun Without luxury, as sug- gested at the convention. t l l l l I 1 i w i 1 HYDE
