CCMMANDI Commander Shepherd was born on 2 January 1948 in Fredericksburg, VA. He was commissioned into the United States Navy in June 1970 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program. His initial duty was as Communica- tions Officer and, later, Main Propul- sion Assistant in USS CROMWELL fDE 1014i in Newport, Rl. From 1972 to 1973, he served as Material Offi- cer on the Staff of Commander, Es- cort Squadron EIGHT in Naples, Ita- ly. After completing the U.S. Naval Destroyer School Department Head Course in 1974, he was assigned as Weapons Officer in USS JESSE L. BROWN QFF 10893 homeported in Charleston, SC., and subsequently, from 1976 to 1978, as Operations Officer in USS BOULDER QLST 1190i homeported in Little Creek, VA. From 1981 to 1983, Commander Shepherd served as Executive Offi- cer in USS BRUMBY QFF 10441 ho- meported in Charleston, SC. His shore tours have included duty as a Soviet Navy Analyst.at the Naval CFFICER CDR. W.F. SHEPHERD Intelligence Support Center, Suit- land, MD., and on the Staff of the Director of Naval Intelligence, Wash- ington, DC. He is a proven intelli- gence subspecialist. Commander Shepherd earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina in 1970 and a Master of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1981. He is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal fwith Gold Starl, Navy Achievement Medal fwith Gold Starl, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. Commander Shepherd is the son of Colonel W.C, Shepherd, USA fRetJ, and Patricia Stone Shepherd of Fre- dericksburg, VA. He is married to Lynda Gay Stallings of Rocky Mount, NC. They have two sons, Phillip 18, and Stephen 15.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Polley was born on 25 June 1953 in Warren, Ohio. He was commissioned into the United States Navy in June 1975 through the Naval Re- serve Officer Training Corps Program His initial duty was as Communications Officer and, later, as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS FARRAGUT QDDG 37l in Norfolk, VA. While serving in FAR- RAG UT he qualified Surface Warfare Offi- cer and completed cruises to the Mediter- ranean and Caribbean Seas. After com- pleting Surface Warfare Officer School Department Head Course in 1981, he was assigned as Engineer Officer in USS AINSWORTH CPF 10903, home-ported in Norfolk, VA, and later as First Lieutenant in USS SPARTANBURG COUNTY CLST 11925. Aboard these ships he completed cruises to the North Atlantic, Mediterra- nean, and Indian Ocean. LCDR D.P. POLLEY His shore tours have included duty as an Officer-in-Charge on Yard Patrol Craft in Newport, R.l., and as a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. Lieutenant Commander Polley earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1975, and a Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1987. His awards include the Battle Efficiency Award and Navy Expeditionary Medal. Lieutenant Commander Polley is the son ofthe late Richard P. Polley and Jean M. Polley of Massillon, Ohio. He is married to Ana Margarita Gonzalez of Buena Park, CA. They have two daughters, Antoinette 6, and Cristina, 8 months. 4 . -1-.A
