The ET's go through ,extensive electronic training prior to coming to the fleet and even while at their command they attend many schools for certain pieces of equipment. All in all, the ET's spend several years in schools depending on the length of tour they serve 8: the equipment they have to work on. The ET's work on a wide range of electronic equipment ranging from the radio gear in Radio Central, to the radar and identification equipment in CIC, to the satellite navigation equipment top side. Manning the Signal Bridge, the signalmen are our visual signal operators. When avoiding possible radio interception and during radio silence, plans are sent by visual signal to the ships within visual range. The SM's play a major role during Amphibi- ous Operations. Directing the boats when and where to come alongside the ship. The Signal Bridge is known as debarkation control and gives important signals for directing the as- sault on the beach.
