GUMMANDI G 0 FIU CUMMANDER RUBERT E. MUMFURD, JR , USN Commander Mumford was born and raised in Westfield, New Jersey. He was graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1957, and was commissioned an Ensign from the regular NROTC program. His first duty station was the USS VALLEY FORGE iCVS-452, where he served in Communications and later as Auxiliaries Officer. He was then transferred to the University of Colorado as an NROTC instructor, and while there completed graduate work, receiving a Master's Degree in Political Science. His next assign- ment, in 1961, was as First Lieutenant and then Operations Officer on the USS RUSHMORE lLSD-141. Transferring ashore in 1963, Commander Mumford reported to the Defense A A Intelligence Agency as an analyst for Soviet Auxiliaries is and later, the politicallmilitary situation in Laos. Returning to sea, Commander Mumford served as Intelligence Officer and later, Assistant Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, Amphibious Squad- ron ONE. His next assignment was Executive Officer of the Fleet Oiler, MANA TEE iA0-581, which was commit- ted to the Vietnamese conflict for the majority of the time he was aboard. Immediately prior to receiving orders to the FRESNO, Commander Mumford served as the Executive Assistant in the Office of Naval Intelli- gence in Washington. Commander Mumford's decorations include the . Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Navy Commendation Medals and the Navy Achievement Medal with combat f,.., distinguishing devices, 4 Meritorious Unit Commenda4 tions, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 8 campaign Stars. Commander Mumford is married and has a son and a daughter. ,

EXECUTIVE UEFIUER LGDR DUNALD P. GRINNELL, USN Lieutenant Commander Grinnell was graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1961. Since that time he has served in a variety of billets in both the Destroyer and Amphibious Forces. ln addition, he served in the River Patrol Force in Vietnam. LCDR Grinnell holds a Master's degree in Electronics Engineering. LCDR Grinnell is married and has two sons and two daughters.
