FCDREWCDRD Throughout the history of the West there has always been something, somewhere, which has helped us sur- mount the obstacles and difficulties always present in our path. Something has led us on when the way ahead seemed hard and the way back easy. Something always gave that extra little push, sending us over the top. In the Old West, this intangible something kept our forefathers going forward into a new land and led them to settle one of the greatest sections of our country. It shows itself in the West today, in the bridges and dams, the skyscrapers and office building, the schools and hos- pitals, and in everything else which pictures the in- genuity, knowledge, and hope that are so typical of the West. No one knows what the future will hold, but we do know this . . . the West is going to play a big part in that future, whatever it may be. Close beside the lead- ers will be this irresistible power that has led the people on their march westward . . the Spirit of the West . . . the spirit that has made this part of the country what it is today. On the pages of this book we see that the students of Fresno High, like students elsewhere in the West, are carrying on the traditions set down for them many years ago. We see that even though they no longer at- tend the little red schoolhouse, they are still learning the fundamentals Q. . the three R7s, cooperation, friend- ship. . . and car ' g in their e s tlye same hope for the future that t -ifr for rs h .
