1961 PRE-SEASON SUMMARY The 1961 track team appeared to have both the depth and strength necessary to have a highly successful season. The first meet of the season saw Fresno City College on top in a triangular event with Modesto Junior College and Diablo Valley College. The score was FCC 82, Modesto 51, and Diablo Valley 18. Veteran sprinter Bill Hall took two first places with a 9.9 century and 219, 220. Another veteran, Chet Rooters took two firsts in the weights, and tossing the discus 143 feet, 11V2 a first in the broad iump with an ex- of 22 feet, 7 inches - a new school winning first places were Steve Sharp heaving the shot 49 feet inches. Steve Hopper took cellent early season leap mark in the event. Other in the high lump, Fernie Montanez in the 880 and Ron Loeb in the pole vault. The squad consisted of Hall, Lee Harris, and Byron Huntington, 100 and 220, Jarvis Crocker, Tom Ahaianian, Michael Strid, Ron Alanis and Leo Revis, 440, Montanez, Bill Riley and Jim Barnes, 880, Ted Cox and Neil Hollenbeck, mile, Cox and Jim Watchempino, two mile, Johnson and Sharp, high iump, Root- ers, Ralph Bischel and Theotis Crump, shot and discus, Alex Prud- hume and Lewis Adams, 120 highs, Hopper, Adams and Crocker, 220 lows, Loeb, DeWayne Peterson and Alvin Stausell, pole vault, and Hopper, Giese and Adam, broad iump.
