Backfield, Levi Owens, Dan Stockton, Jim Long and Glenn The 1960 Fresno City College football team had a very successful season, witness the 8-win, 2-loss record. There were many high spots and a few low ones, but with the high morale of the team and the school, the year was one of the best city college seasons in the past decade. lt was the first time in lO years that an FCC team won all of its non-conference games, including a post-season bowl victory over favored Hartnell College. Outstanding players this year were hard to single out because of the overall ability of the squad. However, awards were made to George Ward as the outstanding back and player, Ward led the Rams in scoring and individual rushing. Ed Gomes was recognized as the outstanding line- man for the second straight year, while Ron Cernokus was selected as team captain. 149

THIRD ROW, Coach Ellis Carrasco, Don Hunt, Larry Sasashima, Woody Gregory, Levi Owens, Howard Lakin, John l96O Season The Rams opened their season against the Fullerton Junior Col- lege Hornets in Fullerton. FCC dumped the Hornets, T5-O, The Rams scored twice and drove the Hornets back into their end zone for a safety. The first score came on a pass from Chuck Caldera to Bill Knocke, and the second tally came by another pass, Caldera to Levi Owens. FCC hosted Stockton College in the first home game at the McLane Stadium. The Rams rolled up five touchdowns in swamping the Mustangs, 33 to 6. Two of the scores were by passing, one completed to Dewey Belli, the other to Joe Williams. Ward and Knocke countered on short runs, while Tom Hickman tallied on an intercepted pass. ln their league opener against the College of Sequoias the Rams earned sweet revenge for a close loss in l959. The city college dumped the Giants, l9 to l4. The first Ram score came early in the first period when Ward drove over from the five- yard line. The Rams then tallied on a pass, Caldera to Williams for i5 yards. The last FCC score came on a Caldera to Williams pass, also. Excellent line play in the final moments of the game saved the win for the Rams. Having dumped one of the pre-season favorites, FCC entered 150
