2 ,mf 'P' ' L2 sf- wfwf 1? Back. . .Back. . .Back thru the years. Come with me, a former alumna of Frenchtown High School, to 1954 as I remember those poignant and wonderful times. As I think back, I remember my first day: afraid, awed and shy. . .yes. But more than this, I was excited and looking forward to four enriching years. Fellow members of my class were assigned to Homerooms 8, 14 and 15 with Miss Carpenter, Miss Miller and Mrs. Gross. At our first class meeting, we elected Bill Wolfe as President, Jack Rich, Vice-President, Carol Shaw, Secre- tary and Arlene Amht as our Treasurer. Mr. Luther Hammond was chosen by our class to act as our Adviser. The seventh week of school saw our election of Arlene Arnht, Michael Bean and Jack Rich to the Student Council. We really felt that now we were becoming a part of the school. I can remember the fun I had at our Freshman Party on November 10th. It was our first class gathering, and the dancing and games helped us to get better acquainted. Sportswise, our Freshman Year was a big one, we had champion teams in football and basketball. Carolyn Eckert received a letter for hockey and James Balliet received one for baseball. In the Fall of 1955, I retumed to Frenchtown as a Sophomore: a student well started on the road to becoming an upperclassman. We elected Michael Bean as President, Noralie Haney as Vice -President, Carol Shaw as Secretary and Kay Trainer as Treasurer. Miss Anne Shaffer was elected Class Adviser. With her help, we sold taffeta roses as our class project. As our Student Council representatives, we elected Lyal Gordon, Jack Rich and William Wolfe. By this time, we were well launched on our Sophomore year and experience had taught us that it would take plenty ofhardwork and perseverance to succeed. Bearing this thought in mind,we enthusiastically announced our dance. . . Spring Fantasy, held on Oct. 19th. As Sophomores, we began to take a more active interest in extra -curricular activities. Michael Bean won the local Oratorical Contest, and Susan Schaible, Noralie Haney and Sandra McCarty made the Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squad. Again the Class of '58 made itself known in the field of sports. Receiving a letter for football was James Ballietand for baseball, Byron Hero. I remember how proud we were as Sophomores for our School had champion- ship teams in football, basketball and baseball. Sophomore girls also received honors in sports. In hockey, Lyn Jenkins,Caroline Eckert, Susan Schaible,Noralie Haney and Manager, Ruth Ann Laire received Varsity letters. Then we were Juniors! Upperclassmen at last! We started off the year by electing William Wolfe as President, Robert Rummel as Vice-President, Ruth Ann Laire as Secretary, Arlene Arnht as Treasurer and Mr. Tap Webb as Class Adviser. Once again, we elected representatives to Student Council. They were Ruth Ann Laire and Lyal Gordon. Lyal Cordon, President, Mr. Webb, Adviser, Jerry Shoudt, Vice-President, Ruth Ann Laire, Secretary, Noralie Haney, Treasurer.
