Along with the traditional Homecoming Football game and Homecoming Dance there were also other activities such as girls basketball and a Homecoming Parade. 6 Spirit Week Gary Hansen, Thane Adams and Tim Howard pay tribute to the Bobcats before the game. From the first day of school to graduation, they have worked hard on their ar- rangements. Out- standing seniors this year were: Debbie Winsor- (Alto), Paula Smith (Alto), Amber Cyr (Soprano), David Clark (Bass), and Bryan Warne (ten- or). There were a number of events that the choir par- ticipated in this year including concerts, festi- vals, invitationals, and the senior slave auction and graduation. We hope that in the years to come the Frenchtown choir will carry on the tradition of excel- lency they have set in the past 18 Choir DANCE!!! DANCE!!! DANCE!!! Along with the Concert Choir, there were two show choirs. Chaunteur, a boys and girls dance group, and Chaunteusse, an all girls choir danced and sang their hearts out for a year of great performances. The dancers get to pick their own selec- tions, and create their own step by step dances. Choir 19 AN AMERICAN BAND!!! The 1986-87 Frenchtown High School Band led by Mr. Steven White is shown here in the uniforms. They sounded outstanding this year. Not only did they do a number of home concerts, but they participated in many festivals, and pepped the teams up away from home. In the Fall, we hosted a festival with a great turnout. There were over 20 of our students in this honor band. We loved them and hope that their tradition of excellence is carried on for years to come. ROCK AND ROLL AIN'T NOISE POLLUTION!!! 20 Band Mr. White also led a number of extra- curricular activities such as jazz band, marching band, and a class of group les- sons. It was unusually cool with intermittent wind and rain throughout the first four games, whereas the second half of the season was overwhelmed by a beautiful Indian summer. The first challenge at Townsend was a seasaw battle against a formidable opponent. The Broncs offensively controlled the football with a consistant ground attack complimented by a stingy defense to go home with their first non-conference victory 18-14 Their second non-conference game took them north to St. Ignatius to play the mission Bulldogs. The game was plagued with wind and rain, but the Bronc defense was relentless and their offense exploded for 336 yards rushing The Broncs knocked on the door to score from the 1 yard line to secure their second victory 22-6. The third and final non-conference game took the Broncs to Thompson Falls. The Broncs had their first two scoring drives squelched by fumbles inside the 10 yard line, but got on track the second half with a well balanced run-pass attack and a hard hitting defense to capture their third consecutive victory 31 -0. The Broncs opened conference play the following week against their perennial rival Loyola, for their 1986 debut at home. Frenchtown's tenacious defense snared five interceptions, one for a touchdown, and forced three fumbles to stop the Ram's offense, cold in its track The Bronc offense took advantage of the turnovers to put three touchdowns on the score board and secure its first conference victory 29-0. The ensuing week found the Broncs complacent in preparation for the underestimated Superior Bobcats. The game seemed to reflect many elements of a bad dream. The Broncs opened the game with a sense of over-confidence, which soon turned to fear when the upstart Bobcats scored two touchdowns on Bronc turnovers to take the halftime lead 14-0. The third quarter saw little change in the momentum, but as the final period started, so did the Broncs. They sustained two offensive drives to score 14 points and tie the game with just over two minutes remaining. Unfortunately, their hopes were shattered when the Bobcats scored on a fourth down broken pass play at the final gun to lose their first game 20-14 The next week the Broncs traveled down the Bitteroot Valiev to meet o revengeful Darby team that had not defeated Frenchtown for six consecutive years. In addition, every battle between the Broncs and the Tigers has always been a hard hitting war until the final gun. This Saturday was no different, as both teams played with an intense desire to win. The game came down to the final play for the second week in a row and the Broncs saw all hope for their fifth consecutive title disipate with a last minute penalty that denied them a final offensive opportunity to overcome a 12-14 deficit. The final two games with Corvallis and Florence represented nothing more than on opportunity to demonstrate their determination and will to overcome adversity. The Broncs continued to work hard through the final two weeks of the 1986 season, realizing it was the first time since 1980 that they knew when the season would end. The seventh game brought the Corvallis Blue Devils to Frenchtown with an impressive passing attack. However, the Broncs netted 5 interceptions and exploded for 479 offensive yards to take a 4-12 victory. The final game of the '86 season took the Broncs to Florence for another Saturday afternoon battle. Frenchtown combined a swarming defense with a well balanced running attack to dominate the game for a 21-17 victory to end the season at 6-2. Both seasons had a very full year between the various team going to state competitions, and the earlier imposed equal rights law which stated that both boys and girls ac- tivities were to receive equivalent support from the cheerleaders. Although the girls had a quite stressful year, they did manage to have a fun time, and to make a lot of good memories in the process. Coo r t y„ Coach Strothman talks about his team; I am extremely proud of this years girls team. It was quite a jump for them physically and mentally to move from running 2 miles to 3 miles in a race. I think they handled it quite well. Our team had good success this year both individually and as a team. Brenda Williams finished 1st at Loyola and Hamilton. Our team usually finished 2nd to Hamilton. One of the high- lights that we have is the Frenchtown meet. This year was especially nice since Missoula County High Schools came out, Hellgate, Sentinel, and Big Sky and we beat Sentinel. 90 X-Country Junior Laura Wraith- Do you think I can make the football Team? But, through the efforts of Russ Faris, the team was assembled and awarded Jeff Anderson. Jeff, a student-teacher and standout wres- tler for the University of Montana, became head coach for this year only. The team was shaky at first, los- ing two duals in a row, but they be- came the team to beat in every tour- nament. The team took fourth in the Arlee tournament, third in the Ronan Invitational, second in the Mission tourney, and won the Corvallis Christ- mas Invitational. As Divisional ap- proached, the team started having mandatory half-hour practices in the morning. The hard work and dedica- tion paid off. The team placed fourth overall in the Divisional tourney, and advanced five wrestlers to state, four being Divisional champions. Seniors David Clarke, Tim Howard, Greg Klepper, and Gary Hansen each won the 7 B-C Division in their weight classes and advanced to state with junior Steve Clarke, who placed sec- ond. At state, these five wrestlers took to the field with the effort of the team and the state champion Clarke brothers, brought home the second place trophy to all the unbelievers. Thanks to all who made the 86-87 wrestling season a success and such a special year to everyone. Farewell to the five graduating Divisional Champions. 1. The Frenchtown captains call the toss. 2. Wrestling 103 1987 CLASS B-C 119 AND 132 POUND Steven Clarke, after a upset loss at divisionals, came back strong at the state tourney in Butte and won the 119 pound state title. After a great dual season with only two losses to the fifth place finisher in the state, Steve Clarke was ready to win. He did so almost easi- ly, showing what an athlete Steve really is. With an- other year left, Steve will hopefully rank among only 10 other two-time state champions. Good luck next year in the state next year, Steven, there aren't many wrestlers like you. After placing at state for fwo years, David, like Ste- ven, was ready to win. There was no doubt in David's mind that he could capture the state crown, even early in the season. He gives most of the credit to his hard work and his diet plan. David was the teams most valuable wrestler, and with just reason. David became the first wrestler from Frenchtown in the Cen- tury Club, an elite group that comprises of only wres- tlers that have won 100 matches in their four year career. Farewell, and good luck.
